We present new capacity upper bounds for the discrete-time Poisson channel with no dark current and an average-power constraint. These bounds are a simple consequence of techniques developed by one of the authors for the seemingly unrelated problem of upper bounding the capacity of binary deletion and repetition channels. Previously, the best known capacity upper bound in the regime where the a...

We have studied the I vs V behaviour of 6 full-size gaps (2 oiled and 4 non-oiled). Washing the non-oiled gaps results in a sizeable decrease of dark current.

We consider the transmission of a single bit over the continuous-time Poisson channel with noiseless feedback. We show that to send the bit reliably requires, on the average, half the energy of a photon. In the absence of peak-power constraints this holds irrespective of the intensity of the dark current. We also solve for the energy required to send log 2 M bits.

The current acceleration of the Universe is one of the most puzzling issues in theoretical physics nowadays. We are far from giving an answer in this letter to the question of its nature. Yet, with the observations we have at hand, we analyse the different patterns that the gravitational potential can show in the future. Surprisingly, gravity not only can get weaker in the near future, it can e...

Evidence of particle trapping has been observed in a beam driven Plasma Wake Field Accelerator (PWFA) experiment, E164X, conducted at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center by a collaboration which includes USC, UCLA and SLAC. Such trapping produces plasma dark current when the wakefield amplitude is above a threshold value and may place a limit on the maximum acceleration gradient in a PWFA. T...

A new and inexpensive technique for detecting self interacting dark matter in the form of small grains in bulk matter is proposed. Depending on the interactions with ordinary matter, dark matter grains in bulk matter may be isolated by using a centrifuge and using ordinary matter as a filter. The case of mirror matter interacting with ordinary matter via photon-mirror photon kinetic mixing prov...

An approach to develop room temperature detectors is to use transitions between the light/heavy hole bands and the split-off hole band to produce enhanced response at high temperature. Results are presented on a theoretical model to predict the response in these split-off detectors. The model calculates the dark and illuminated currents from the photoabsorption, carrier escape, and transport, e...
