to determine chromosomal localization and relationship between field and laboratory indicators of drought tolerance, an experiment was conducted in 2003-2004 cropping season at sararood agricultural research station, kermanshah, iran. seven genotypes of wheat-barley disomic addition lines provided by international center for agricultural research in dryland areas (icarda), their donor and recip...

In this research the effects of cold were evaluated on coleoptile growth of 18 rice genotypes in two separate experiments. The first experiment was carried out as factorial based on randomized complete block design with three replications. In this experiment, two factors were including genotypes at 18 levels and temperature at 5 levels (9, 13, 17, 21 and 25 C°). The seeds of genotypes don’t ger...

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) seeds can germinate under anoxia and can show coleoptile elongation. The anoxic coleoptile is usually longer than aerobic coleoptiles. Although several hypotheses have been proposed to explain the ability of rice to elongate coleoptiles under anoxia, conclusive experimental evidence explaining this physiological trait is lacking. In order to investigate whether metabolic ...

Elongation growth of intact, red-light grown maize (Zea mays L.) coleoptiles was studied by applying a small spot of an indole acetic acid (IAA)-lanolin mixture to the coleoptile tip. We report that: (a) endogenous auxin is limiting for growth, (b) an approximately linear relation holds between auxin concentration and growth rate over a range which spans those rates occurring in phototropism, a...

Elongation of the mesocotyl and coleoptile facilitates the emergence of rice (Oryza sativa) seedlings from soil and is affected by various genetic and environment factors. The regulatory mechanism underlying this process remains largely unclear. Here, we examined the regulation of mesocotyl and coleoptile growth by characterizing a gaoyao1 (gy1) mutant that exhibits a longer mesocotyl and longe...

Sum rv01,1f. A mo(lifie(l )rocedlure is presente(d for the bioassay of aulxin lusilng -Iv'eno coleoptile segments. The modifications introduicedl restult in a substantial improvement of the commonly uised( coleoptile elongatioil tests. The proposed test retains the simplicity of physical reqillremeints and of manipulatioIn characteristic of all elongatioln tests. The maiin featuire of the propo...

The red coleoptile trait can help monocotyledonous plants withstand stresses, and key genes responsible for the trait have been isolated from Triticum aestivum, Triticum urartu, and Triticum monococcum, but no corresponding research has been reported for Aegilops tauschii. In this research, transcriptome analysis was performed to isolate the candidate gene controlling the white coleoptile trait...

Four growth-influencing compounds-hydroxyproline, 2,2'-dipyridyl, 2-chloroethylphosphonic acid, and indoleacetic acid-were used to examine the relationship between lignin formation and growth of wheat coleoptile sections. Hydroxyproline and 2-chloroethylphosphonic acid, at low concentrations, inhibited growth and increased lignin content. Dipyridyl, which promoted coleoptile elongation, decreas...

The first physics results of the HARP experiment are presented. We emphasize the high performance of the forward part of the apparatus. The differential raw pion yield and its efficiency correction up to polar angles of 250 mrad are shown. The analysed setting is 12.9 GeV /c incident protons in a 5% interacion legth aluminium target.

Rhythmic fluctuation in the basipetal movement of auxin occurs in corn (Zea mays) coleoptiles oriented either in the vertical or in the horizontal position. This periodicity of transport rate varies from region to region in a horizontal coleoptile. Between an upper and lower half coleoptile (with respect to gravity), the comparable regions in the coleoptile do not exhibit similar periods. The v...
