A new genus and species, Lanceacheyla whartoni (Acariformes: Prostigmata: Cheyletidae) is described for the female, male, and teleonymph. All mites were collected from leaves of ‘Hamlin’ orange trees in Florida, U.S.A. Affinities of the new genus within Cheyletidae are discussed.

Metacheyletia degenerata Fain and Bochkov, 2003 (Acariformes: Cheyletidae) is recorded for the first time from the quills of the European Bee-eater Merops apiaster L., 1758 (Coraciformes: Meropidae). It is also the first record of Metacheyletia found on coraciiform birds. Moreover, the following localities: Macedonia, Italy, Azerbaijan, Russia and Tanzania, are new for M. degenerata.

House dust mites have been reported to be the most important allergen in human dwellings. Several articles had already shown the presence of different mite species at homes in Brazil, being Pyroglyphidae, Glycyphagidae and Cheyletidae the most important families found. This paper is an annotated bibliography that will lead to a better knowledge of house dust mite fauna in Brazil.
