UNLABELLED As is commonly understood, the root canal morphology of the maxillary molars is usually complex and variable. It is sometimes difficult to detect the distobuccal root canal orifice of a maxillary second molar with root canal treatment. No literature related to the distobuccal root canals of the maxillary second molars has been published. OBJECTIVE To investigate the position of the...
OBJECTIVE The purposes of this retrospective study were to represent a newly designed theoretical model for determining orifice shape and morphologic properties of mandibular premolars and to correlate these findings with each other. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 287 mandibular premolar images obtained from 88 patients by cone-beam computed tomography were included in this study. The measu...
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shaping ability of three nickel-titanium systems in simulated curved canals. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty simulated canals were prepared to apical size 25 with Reciproc, S5, and twisted file (TF) instruments. Standardized pre and postoperative images were taken using a digital camera, were superimposed and aberrations were recorded. Mater...
Undetected extra roots or root canals are a major reason for failure of endodontic treatment. Failure to recognize an extra distolingual (DL) root in mandibular first molar may lead to incomplete debridement of the root canal system and eventually treatment failure. Therefore, it is crucial that atypical anatomy is identified before and during dental treatment. Spiral computed tomography (SCT) ...
A 64 year old woman with partial atrioventricular canal and double orifice mitral valve presented with severe mitral regurgitation secondary to a torn leaflet. The double orifice regurgitant mitral valve is an unusual finding at operation.
background: knowledge about root canal morphology and its frequent variations can exert considerable influence on the success of endodontic treatment. the aim of this study was to survey the root canal morphology of mandibular first premolar teeth in a gujarati population by decalcification and clearing technique. methods: one hundred thirty eight extracted mandibular first premolar teeth w...
The purpose of this study was to conduct a cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) investigation on the root and canal configuration of the mandibular first molars, especially the morphology of the disto-lingual (DL) root, in a Chinese subpopulation. A total of 910 CBCT images of the mandibular first molars were collected from 455 patients who underwent CBCT examinations as a preoperative assessm...
A 4 year-old male presented with effort dyspnea, and was diagnosed as atrioventricular canal defects. This finding was confirmed by open heart surgery, and a congenital double orifice mitral valve was discovered. The septal defect was closed but the double orifice mitral valve was respected because of the absence of hemodynamic disturbance. We report this case with review of literature.
conclusions most extracted maxillary first molars were three rooted and four canals. cbct has relatively high reproducibility and accuracy of distinguishing mb2 canal. results we found 100% of cases with three separated roots, from which 69.23% had four canals including mb2 and 30.77% with three canals. 71.3% of mesiobuccal roots were two canals of type two vertucci and 28.7% type 4 with the me...
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to determine the root canal anatomy of mandibular first premolar teeth in an Emirati subpopulation using a decalcification and clearing method. MATERIALS AND METHODS One hundred permanent mandibular first premolar teeth extracted for orthodontic purposes from an Emirati subpopulation from the United Arab Emirates were used for this study. They were subj...
