The causal cognitive relay channel (CRC) has two sender-receiver pairs, in which the second sender obtains information from the first sender causally and assists the transmission of both senders. In this paper, we study both the fulland half-duplex modes. In each mode, we propose two new coding schemes built successively upon one another to illustrate the impact of different coding techniques. ...

Liu and Edwards argue against the use of weighted statistical binning within a species tree estimation pipeline. However, we show that their mathematical argument does not apply to weighted statistical binning. Furthermore, their simulation study does not follow the recommended statistical binning protocol and has data of unknown origin that bias the results against weighted statistical binning.

When spin polarised electrons flow through a magnetic texture transfer torque is generated. We examine the effect of this on skyrmions and skyrmion bags, skyrmionic structures arbitrary integer topological degree, in thin ferromagnetic films. Using micromagnetic simulations analysis from well known Thiele equation we explore potential for sorting or binning varying degrees mechanically. investi...

Abstract Purpose: Errors in data collection and failure to pay attention to data that are noisy in the collection process for any reason cause problems in data-based analysis and, as a result, wrong decision-making. Therefore, solving the problem of missing or noisy data before processing and analysis is of vital importance in analytical systems. The purpose of this paper is to provide a metho...

BACKGROUND Recovering individual genomes from metagenomic datasets allows access to uncultivated microbial populations that may have important roles in natural and engineered ecosystems. Understanding the roles of these uncultivated populations has broad application in ecology, evolution, biotechnology and medicine. Accurate binning of assembled metagenomic sequences is an essential step in rec...

Binning is a categorization process to transform a continuous variable into a small set of groups or bins. Binning is widely used in credit scoring. In particular, it can be used to define the Weight of Evidence (WOE) transformation. In this paper, we first derive an explicit solution to a logistic regression model with one independent variable that has undergone a WOE transformation. We then u...

Metagenomic binning is an essential task in analyzing metagenomic sequence datasets. To analyze structure or function of microbial communities from environmental samples, metagenomic sequence fragments are assigned to their taxonomic origins. Although sequence alignment algorithms, such as BWA, Bowtie or BLAST, can readily be used and usually provide high-resolution alignments and accurate binn...

MOTIVATION Paired-end sequencing protocols, offered by next generation sequencing (NGS) platforms like Illumia, generate a pair of reads for every DNA fragment in a sample. Although this protocol has been utilized for several metagenomics studies, most taxonomic binning approaches classify each of the reads (forming a pair), independently. The present work explores some simple but effective str...

We explore the connection between channel and source coding problems. Our study centers on the class of binning schemes that characterize the largest known achievable rates for channel and source coding problems with partial side information and multiterminal scenarios. The binning scheme can be viewed as a set of bins with each bin forming a channel code (with error probability 22) and set of ...

Characterizing the taxonomic diversity of microbial communities is one of the primary objectives of metagenomic studies. Taxonomic analysis of microbial communities, a process referred to as binning, is challenging for the following reasons. Primarily, query sequences originating from the genomes of most microbes in an environmental sample lack taxonomically related sequences in existing refere...
