The isoelectric point of the K99 antigen in partially purified preparations isolated from Escherichia coli B41 was 4.2. Electrofocused K99 antigen hemagglutinated guinea pig and sheep erythrocytes and gave a single precipitin line on diffusion against antisera to E. coli B41 and absorbed factor K99 antisera.
Some analyses of the single pion production in -:::-N collision1> have been made to find the evidence of the boson isobars2> of the Sakata model. From these ar:alyses jt has been suggested that the boson isobar with I= 2, i.e. B41 (0, 2) of the Sakata model, exists and t as the 2-:::-decay mode. The B41 (0, 2) isobar is, then, expected to have the effect to the pionic decay of kaon. Especially ...
Studies carried out in various populations have reported an association between some HLA specificities and susceptibility to tuberculosis. We investigated the class I and class II HLA profile in Brazilian patients of various ethnic backgrounds who had AIDS and tuberculosis. Twenty-two adult patients with AIDS and tuberculosis (Group I), 103 patients with AIDS without tuberculosis (Group II) and...
There are many different ideas of understanding in the experimental economics literature, leading to much debate and conflict between various methodological positions. It is argued that a Gricean approach to the notion of understanding is one which makes most sense in the context of experimentation and provides a robust theoretical background for assessing understanding in practical experiments...
The draft genome sequences of two heat-resistant mutant strains, A52 and B41, derived from Rhodobacter capsulatus DSM 1710, and with different hydrogen production levels, are reported here. These sequences may help understand the molecular basis of heat resistance and hydrogen production in R. capsulatus.
I argue that it is microeconomics that needs foundations, not macroeconomics. Preferences need to be built on biology, and, in particular, on neuroscience. In contrast, macroeconomics could benefit from rationalizations of aggregate economic phenomena by non-equilibrium statistical physics. Several studies indicate that humans are overconfident about their own (relative) abilities. We propose a notion of pragmatic beliefs, and show through an example that this concept can shed light on why overconfidence emerges. Through the example, we also shed light on the idea that that ’bounded rationality’ may arise endogenously in a game without assuming complexity costs. JEL codes: B41, C7...
This paper discusses the idea that John Stuart Mill supported two intellectual positions which are considered to be contradictory. On one hand, he proposed a radical empiricist epistemology in his System of Logic. other defended David Ricardo’s Political Economy, fairly criticized its time from an empirical point view. argues there is no internal contradiction Mill, as believes method used Econ...
This paper deals with hyperbolic discounting in a macro context. Time consistency is discussed in terms of rational behavior and rational expectations. The theory is applied to the intertemporal consumption decision in order to explain undersaving in an economy. Moreover, possible implications on policy makers’ decisions on reforms and budget deficits are evinced. Finally, the Ricardian equival...
