Aureobasidium pullulans is an unusual agent of phaeohyphomycosis. The in vitro activities of antifungals against 104 isolates of Aureobasidium pullulans var. pullulans and A. pullulans var. melanigenum revealed low MIC90s of amphotericin B, posaconazole, and itraconazole. However, they were resistant to fluconazole (≥64 μg/ml) and had high MICs of voriconazole, isavuconazole, caspofungin, and m...

Enzymes associated with release of iron from internalized ferrated siderophore (ferrisiderophore reductase), with damage to the cell at high iron concentration (superoxide dismutase) and siderophore synthesis (alkaline phosphatase), were examined in 3 test fungi viz., Aspergillus sp. ABp4, Aureobasidium pullulans and Rhizopus sp. Extracellular ferrisiderophore reductase activity was present in ...

Mahdi Arzanlou,

Background: Members of this genus Aureobasidium are ubiquitous microorganisms which can be isolated from wide ranges of substrates such as plant materials (phyllosphere, plant debris, bark, roots, fruits and wood), soil, dead wood, air, and as rare etiologic agent of pheohyphomycosis, keratomycosis, septicemia, peritoneal sepsis, and dermatological infections in human. Very little is known on t...

although more than 3000 antibiotics have been reported from actinomycetes/ higher fungi; biotechnological potential of yeasts and yeast-like fungi with respect to production of antimicrobial compounds has not been sufficiently investigated. we examined the antimicrobial activity of 11 strains of aureobasidium pullulans (two new isolates and nine standard strains). all the strains of aureobasidi...

Aureobasidium pullulans, popularly known as black yeast, is one of the most widespread saprophytic fungus associated with wide range of terrestrial and aquatic habitats. The fungus has widely been employed in production of an economically important polysaccharide pullulan. Total 50 isolates of Aureobasidium pullulans were isolated from different flowers and leaves samples, out of which 10 therm...

The mold Aureobasidium pullulans was isolated on several nutrient media from a splenic abscess in a patient with disseminated lymphoma. Examination of stained smears and paraffin sections revealed fungal structures characteristic of this organism. This is the first reported association of A. pullulans with an opportunistic visceral infection.
