background it has been proposed that reactive oxygen species (ros) is involved in the pathogenesis of various diseases. paraoxonase, a high-density lipoprotein associated enzyme, prevents low-density lipoproteins from oxidation. objectives the aim of the present study was to investigate the serum activities of paraoxonase-1 (pon-1), and aryleterase (are) as well as total antioxidant capacity (t...
results administration of dse significantly increased serum paraoxonase and arylesterase activities in treated hypercholesterolemic groups compared to untreated ones. there was a significant difference in the taoc of serum between the normal diet and hypercholesterolemic groups. however, dse did not change the taoc in hypercholesterolemic groups significantly. conclusions dse increases serum pa...
The recent determination of the three-dimensional structure of urease revealed striking similarities of enzyme architecture to adenosine deaminase and phosphotriesterase, evidence of a distant evolutionary relationship that had gone undetected by one-dimensional sequence comparisons. Here, based on an analysis of conservation patterns in three dimensions, we report the discovery of the same act...
For epidemiologic studies that evaluate the relation between potential exposures to environmental chemicals and adverse outcomes, accurate assessments of exposures and health outcomes are needed. Three prospective cohort studies recently evaluated the relation between exposure, as assessed by biomonitoring, of pregnant women to organophosphorus pesticides and several birth outcomes. Here these ...
The first proof of concept for the application of intragel green-to-blue photon upconversion to a chemical reaction is reported. The developed method allows the photoreduction of aryl halides at room temperature under aerobic conditions.
α,β-Unsaturated N,N-dialkyl hydrazones undergo a mild [2 + 2] cycloaddition to allenamides when treated with a suitable gold catalyst. The method, which represents the first application of N,N-dialkyl hydrazones in gold catalysis, is compatible with a wide variety of substituents at the alkenyl moiety of the hydrazone component, proceeds with excellent levels of regio- and diastereoselectivity,...
We synthesized and characterized bromide-bridged Pd(III) chain complexes, [Pd(en)2Br](MalCn-Y)2·H2O (en = ethylenediamine; MalCn-Y = dialkyl sulfomalonate; n: the number of carbon atoms) (n = 7 and 12). The compound with n = 7 showed charge-bistability near room temperature. In addition, it is shown that the Pd(III) state is maintained in the thin film state.
New genetic constructs encoding synthesis of hybrid proteins possessing organophosphorus hydrolase activity and properties of the pH sensitive analog of the green fluorescent protein were developed. It was established that 0.1 mM of the biosynthesis inducer and cultivation for 10 h after the induction were necessary for the maximum yield of the hybrid proteins in the soluble and active form in ...
Starting from N-aryl 2-aroylhydrazono-propanehydrazonoyl chlorides, a series of new functionalized 1,3,4-thiadiazoles were prepared. The structures of the compounds prepared were confirmed by both elemental and spectral analyses as well as by alternate synthesis. The mechanisms of the studied reactions are outlined. The antimicrobial activities of the compounds prepared were screened and the re...
A simple approach to enhancing the activity and stability of organophosphorus hydrolase (OPH) is developed based on interactions between the hydrophobic poly(propylene oxide) (PPO) block of amphiphilic Pluronics and the enzyme. This strategy provides an efficient route to new formulations for decontaminating organophosphate neurotoxins.
