We concern the problem of matching the agents from two disjoint sets, such that the agents from the first set have preferences over the agents from the second set and vice versa. Typical problems of this sort are: college admissions problem, matching workers with firms, men with women (in a matrimonial agency) and so on. Classical approach to this problem comes from Gale and Shapley (1962). Rec...

Extracts of the cells of Comamonas terrigena, grown under a variety of different conditions, contain two distinct, constitutive, NAD-dependent alcohol dehydrogenase enzymes that can be separated by polyacrylamide-gel electrophoresis. One of the enzymes exhibits activity towards D-alkan-2-ols and primary alcohols and the other is active towards L-alkan-2-ols, symmetrical secondary alcohols and p...

Intramolecular formal [4+2] cycloaddition between 3-ethoxycyclobutanones and a carbon-carbon double bond to the corresponding bicyclo[4.n.0]alkan-2-one derivatives proceeded effectively by using ethylaluminium dichloride.

In this paper, we study the interaction of an antisense RNA and its target mRNA, based on the model introduced by Alkan et al. (Alkan et al., J. Comput. Biol., Vol:267–282, 2006). Our main results are the derivation of the partition function [11] (Chitsaz et al., Bioinformatics, to appear, 2009), based on the concept of tight-structure and the computation of the base pairing probabilities. This...

In order to treat a natural schedule matching problem related with worker-firm matchings, we generalize some theorems of Baiou–Balinski and Alkan–Gale by applying a fixed point method of Fleiner.

The stable allocation model is a many-to-many matching model in which each pair’s partnership is represented by a nonnegative integer. This paper establishes a link between two different formulations of this model; the choice function model studied thoroughly by Alkan and Gale and the discrete-concave (M♮-concave) value function model introduced by Eguchi, Fujishige and Tamura. We show that the...

We consider stable three-dimensional matchings of three genders (3GSM). Alkan [Alkan, A., 1988. Nonexistence of stable threesome matchings. Mathematical Social Sciences 16, 207–209] showed that not all instances of 3GSM allow stable matchings. Boros et al. [Boros, E., Gurvich, V., Jaslar, S., Krasner, D., 2004. Stable matchings in three-sided systems with cyclic preferences. Discrete Mathematic...

Using gas chromatography-triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS), the soluble organic matter was analyzed for first time in twenty-two sediment samples from eastern slopes of Gongga Mountain, China, at high altitudes between 4,600 and 6,700 m. The C 11 -C 33 n -alkanes 9 -alkan-2-ones were identified these samples. Both compounds dominated by odd carbon numbers long-chain molecule...

A new procedure for the regiospecific synthesis of 1-(phenylseleno)alkan-2-ones starting from (phenylseleno)acetic acid has been developed. When (phenylseleno)acetyl chloride, generated corresponding acid, was allowed to react with phenylthio(alkyl)cuprate(I) reagents, were obtained in fair good yields.
