Paecilomyces lilacinus has potential for pests control. We aimed to analyze mycelial growth and spore production in P. lilacinus strains in several agro-industrial residues and commercial media. This study suggests alternative nutrient sources for fungi production and that the biotechnological potential of agro-industrial refuses could be employed in byproducts development.

Following the ban of synthetic antibiotics as antimicrobial agents and growth promoters, poultry nutritionists are now trying to find antibiotic substitutes. Agro-industrial by-products are abundant in tropical countries and have been used as the alternatives to conventional feedstuffs in poultry rations. These by-products are also known to contain several bioactive compounds such as oligosacch...

Background The xanthan gum production has been growing significantly. It is estimated an annual increase by about 5 to 10%. The production needs a carbon source in fermentation media and are commonly employed as glucose or sucrose, which accounts for about 50% of the cost of production. Therefore the use of agro-industrial residues, such as corn cob for the production of xanthan gum becomes sug...

The large-scale industrial use of polysaccharides to obtain energy is one the most discussed subjects in science. However, modern concepts biorefinery have promoted diversification these polymers several bioproducts incorporating sustainability and circular economy. This work summarizes major sources agro-industrial residues, physico-chemical properties, recent application trends cellulose, chi...

Over ten million tonnes of solid residues are generated yearly from coffee agro-industry worldwide, along with larger amounts of wastewaters and cultivation residues. Both wastewaters and solid residues, such as defective coffee beans and spent coffee grounds, along with coffee husks (pulp and mucilage) that constitute around 60% of the wet weight of the fresh fruit, represent a relevant source...

Agricultural residues are rich in bioactive compounds. These residues can be used as an alternate source for the production of different products like biogas, biofuel, mushroom, and tempeh as the raw material in various researches and industries. The use of agro-industrial wastes as raw materials can help to reduce the production cost and also reduce the pollution load from the environment. Agr...

The aim of this study was to use agro-industrial residues for the production of a halotolerant keratinolyticprotease by Actinobacterium sp. in solid-state fermentation. Among various agro-industrial residues that were evaluated, apple pomace supported maximum protease production (8400 U/g material). The optimum conditions required for enzyme production were a fermentation period of 72 h, 10% (w...

Holocellulose structures from agro-industrial residues rely on main and side chain attacking enzymes with different specificities for complete hydrolysis. Combinations of crude enzymatic extracts from different fungal species, including Aspergillus terreus, Aspergillus oryzae, Aspergillus niger and Trichoderma longibrachiatum, were applied to sugar cane bagasse, banana stem and dirty cotton res...
