Acute mesenteric ischemia is a circulation-insufficiency event, occurring either suddenly or rapidly over a few weeks, that deprives one or several abdominal organs of adequate respiration to meet metabolic demands. Although mesenteric ischemia occurs infrequently, the mortality rate is from 60 to 100%, depending on the source of obstruction. The risk of atherosclerotic-related mesenteric occlu...

Acute mesenteric ischemia has a variety of etiologies. Non-occulusive mesenteric ischemia accounts for 20-30% of patients with acute mesenteric ischemia. We describe a case of non-occulusive jejunal ischemia leading to infarction that occurred in a patient with cirrhosis and no previous history of cardiovascular disease.

INTRODUCTION Acute mesenteric ischemia is a surgical emergency that entails complex, multi-modal management, but its epidemiology and outcomes remain poorly defined. The aim of this study was to perform a population analysis of the contemporary incidence and outcomes of mesenteric ischemia. METHODS This was a retrospective analysis of acute mesenteric ischemia in the state of Maryland during ...

INTRODUCTION Ischemic bowel disease comprises both mesenteric ischemia and colonic ischemia. Mesenteric ischemia can be divided into acute and chronic ischemia. These are two separate entities, each with their specific clinical presentation and diagnostic and therapeutic modalities. However, diagnosis may be difficult due to the vague symptomatology and subtle signs. CASE PRESENTATION We repo...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Mesenteric ischemia which can be acute or chronic depending on the rapidity of compromised blood flow produces bowel ischemia, infarction, bacterial transmigration, endotoxemia, multisystem organ failure and death. High altitude can precipitate thrombosis because of hypobaric hypoxia and its effect on coagulation system. The objectives of this study are to determine th...

OBJECTIVE Acute mesenteric ischemia can be caused by various conditions such as arterial occlusion, venous occlusion, strangulating obstruction, and hypoperfusion associated with nonocclusive vascular disease, and the CT findings vary widely depending on the cause and underlying pathophysiology. The aim of this article is to review the CT appearances of acute mesenteric ischemia in various cond...

Marfan syndrome is an autosomal dominant inherited disorder of connective tissue, with various complications manifested primarily in the cardiovascular system. It potentially leads to aortic dissection and rupture, these being the major causes of death. We report a patient who complained of acute abdominal pain, which presented as acute mesenteric ischemia combined with abdominal aortic dissect...
