in this study cross section geometry and material of gasket in proton exchange membrane (pem) fuel cells have been investigated to achieve optimized fuel cell in terms of energy efficiency. the role of gaskets in fuel cells is sealing of gas flow channels and preventing from combination of them. in a pem stack, gasket with approved geometry that suffers more stress has better sealing. for this ...
An algorithm for non-intrusively coupling a commercial finite element software with a research code implementing a hierarchical enrichment of finite element spaces is presented. Examples of hierarchical methods supported by the algorithm are the Generalized or eXtended FEM (GFEM), the scale-bridging GFEM with numerically defined enrichment functions (GFEMgl), and the p-version of the FEM. The p...
A 2D Finite Element Model (F.E.M.) of chip formation process, set up with an Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (A.L.E.) formulation, proposed in the software Abaqus/Explicit TM v6.3, is shown. The experimental validation showed a good qualitative agreement. Thus, FEM of cutting process can be considered as a promising and reliable tool for machining development within the near future.
BACKGROUND Finite element method (FEM) analysis for intraoperative modeling of the left ventricle (LV) is presently not possible. Since 3D structural data of the LV is now obtainable using standard transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) devices intraoperatively, the present study describes a method to transfer this data into a commercially available FEM analysis system: ABAQUS. METHODS In thi...
In this study, we propose the first unified implementation strategy for peridynamics in commercial finite element method (FEM) software packages based on their application programming interface using peridynamics-based (PeriFEM). Using ANSYS and ABAQUS as examples, present numerical results details of PeriFEM FEM software. is a reformulation traditional solving peridynamic equations numerically...
This study evaluates the back calculation of stiffness of a pavement section on Interstate 40 (I-40)in New Mexico through numerical analysis. Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) test has been conducted on a section on I-40. Layer stiffness of the pavement has been backcalculated by a backcalculation software, ELMOD, using the FWD test data. Commercial finite element software, ABAQUS, has been us...
In this paper, the extended finite element method (X-FEM) is considered for the analysis of fretting fatigue problems. A two-dimensional implementation of the XFEM is carried out within the finite element software ABAQUS by means of user subroutines, and crack propagation in fretting fatigue problems is investigated. On utilizing the non-linear contact capabilities of this code, the numerical t...
In this paper, we introduce an implementation of the extended finite element method for fracture problems within the finite element software ABAQUSTM. User subroutine (UEL) in Abaqus is used to enable the incorporation of extended finite element capabilities. We provide details on the data input format together with the proposed user element subroutine, which constitutes the core of the finite ...
This research studies the structural behaviour of bridge deck slabs under static patch loads in steel–concrete composite bridges and investigates compressive membrane action (CMA) in concrete bridge decks slabs, which governs the structural behaviour. A non-linear 3D finite element analysismodels was developed using ABAQUS 6.5 software packages. Experimental data from one-span composite bridge s...
In this study, the hydrogen transport phenomenon was numerically evaluated by using hydrogen-enhanced localized plasticity (HELP) mechanisms. Two dominant governing equations, namely, the hydrogen transport model and the elasto-plastic model, were introduced. In addition, the implicitly formulated equations of the governing equations were implemented into ABAQUS UMAT user-defined subroutines. T...
