OBJECTIVE To investigate the correlation between gallium-67 (67Ga) uptake and histological subtypes of Hodgkin's disease (HD) in paediatric patients. SUBJECTS AND METHODS Fifty-eight patients (45 males and 13 females aged 9.2 +/- 4 years, range 1.5-17 years) with histologically diagnosed HD underwent pretherapy 67Ga scanning on days 2, 5, 12 or 14 days after intravenous administration of 25-5...
Gallium-67 citrate (67Ga) scintigraphy has been used as an indicator of activity of diffuse interstitial lung diseases. However, little has been mentioned in pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP). Here we present a 53-year-old man with PAP showing patchy 67Ga uptake by single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). Interestingly, the strong 67Ga uptake was observed in areas where ground-gla...
Effect of gallium nitrate on the pharmacokinetics and tissue accumulation of 67Ga was investigated in rats bearing turpentine oil-induced abscess. Gallium nitrate accelerated the blood disappearance of 67Ga, but this effect was less potent than that of ferric nitrate. The accumulation of 67Ga in liver was significantly lowered by gallium nitrate, but no significant decrease of 67Ga accumulation...
We have studied the role of transferrin and the transferrin receptor in the uptake of 67Ga by the human leukemic cell line HL60. In the absence of transferrin, HL60 cells incorporated about 1% of the 67Ga dose over 6 h. The presence of transferrin increased cellular 67Ga uptake approximately 10-fold. Transferrin-mediated uptake of 67Ga was blocked by an anti-transferrin receptor monoclonal anti...
A strong association between malignant lymphoma and Hashimoto's thyroiditis has frequently been reported. However, it is difficult to detect the lymphomatous transformation of Hashimoto's thyroiditis in the early stage. The purpose of the present study was to examine the usefulness of 67Ga scintigraphy in the diagnosis and evaluation of the therapeutic effects during follow-up, in patients with...
introduction gallium-67 (67ga) has been used as a radionuclide for imaging a variety of solid tumors since 1969. since then use of various gallium-based radiotracers has been reported. recently, 67ga-labeled acetylacetate bis(thiosemicarbazones) (67ga-aats) complex with significant tumor accumulation and fast blood clearance has been employed. materials and methods in this study, the absorbed d...
Human granulocytes accumulate 67Ga when incubated under anoxic conditions and exclude the isotope when oxygenated. When incorporated, 67Ga is associated with the lysosomal fraction of the granulocytes. The ability of granulocytes to exclude the isotope except under hypoxic conditions may explain 67Ga localization in abscesses and some tumor masses.
UNLABELLED It was reported previously that normal soft tissues accumulate 67Ga by a transferrin-dependent route, but uptake by tumors can be transferrin independent. It was also reported that, although overexpression of the transferrin receptor can promote Ga avidity, the transferrin-independent uptake of 67Ga is significant and can be augmented to exceed transferrin-mediated levels by increasi...
INTRODUCTION Despite its desirable half-life and low energy Auger electrons that travel further than for other radionuclides, 67Ga has been neglected as a therapeutic radionuclide. Here, 67Ga is compared with Auger electron emitter 111In as a potential therapeutic radionuclide. METHODS Plasmid pBR322 studies allowed direct comparison between 67Ga and 111In (1MBq) in causing DNA damage, includ...
Using in vivo and in vitro experimental models, the uptake and excretion of 67Ga-citrate in tumor cells and normal cells were studied. The time-lapse accumulation of 67Ga in the tumor of rats bearing Yoshida sarcoma reached its peak 24 h after the administration of 67Ga and gradually decreased thereafter. However, the excretion of 67Ga from the tumor was less than that from normal lung. For cul...
