Time-domain bidirectional deconvolution methods show great promise for overcoming the minimum-phase assumption in blind deconvolution of signals containing a mixed-phase wavelet, such as seismic data. However, usually one timedomain method is slow to converge (the slalom method) and the other one is sensitive to the initial point or preconditioner (the symmetric method). Claerbout proposed a lo...

In a previous paper, Abma and Claerbout(1994), presented a technique for separating signal and noise. This technique was fairly expensive since it used an inversion routine that required many iterations to get a reasonable result. Generally the process worked well, but occasionally the traces that contained high amplitude noise showed weak signal on the output. The cause of both the high cost a...

Previously, we developed a sparseness-goaled decon method. Here we test it on six data sets. None showed the unfortunate phase-shift we always see with minimum-phase decon. None showed the polarity reversals or time shifts that perplexed our earlier work. Results on all six data sets enhance polarity visibility. We had expected to see sparseness decon limit the bandwidth in some natural way unl...

To retrieve a sparse model, we applied the hybrid norm conjugate-direction (HBCD) solver proposed by Claerbout to two interesting geophysical problems: least-squares imaging and blind deconvolution. The results showed that this solver is robust for generating sparse models.

the radial trace transform was introduced by the stanford exploration project many years ago (ottolini, 1979 and claerbout, 1983), primarily for use in migration and imaging applications. it has been shown subsequently, because of its particular geometry, to be very useful for wavefield separation (claerbout, 1983) and coherent noise attenuation (henley, 1999). the radial trace transform, unlik...

The idea of obtaining the seismic trace representing the impulse response at one receiver due to a source at another receiver has discussed by many authors. Jon Claerbout (see e.g. Rickett and Claerbout, 1996; Claerbout, web) introduced the concept to seismology. It has been investigated in the laboratory by Lobkis and Weaver (2001), observed in seismic data by Campillio and Paul (2003), and in...

Traditionally blind deconvolution makes the assumption that the reflectivity spike series is white. Earlier we dropped that assumption and adopted the assumption that the output spike series is sparse under a hyperbolic penalty function. This approach now here allows us to take a step further and drop the assumption of minimum phase. In this new method (what we called Bidirectional Sparse Decon...

Fullerene C60 films deposited by sublimation were irradiated with Kr-F laser in a wide fluence interval from 15 to 40 mJ/cm2. In situ photoacoustic analysis was applied to study the phase transformation during the irradiation. The results obtained were discussed in conjunction with atomic force microscopy (AFM) and Raman spectroscopy data. It was found that for a irradiation fluence interval fr...
