Radiosynovectomy is a safe and repeatable treatment method of chronic synovitis with synovial overgrowth and refractory chronic or acute inflammatory joint effusion. It consist in the intraarticular administration of a radioactive isotope in the form of a colloid causing the extinguishing of active synovitis. The radiocolloid causes permanent irradiation of the synovium with beta ray electron b...

Currently, there is no protocol for the detection of intra-articular distribution of Er-169 citrate after radiosynovectomy. We propose post-therapeutic imaging using scintigraphy and cobalt-57 pen-marker autoradiography. This technique evaluates the efficacy of the radiosynovectomy and patient safety and could be utilized for dosimetric protocol.

Radiosynovectomy is a local and minimally invasive radiotherapy for treating various chronic inflammatory arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and haemophilic arthropathy. In haemophilic arthropathy, it reduces the frequency of haemarthrosis and delays the development of severe joint destruction, which ultimately requires surgical intervention. Its role in warfarin-related hae...

OBJECTIVES Hypertrophic and exudative synovitis of the knee is one of the earliest symptoms in rheumatic diseases. In the case of pharmacotherapy failure, other methods which directly remove the inflamed synovial membrane are used - synovectomies. Radiosynovectomy (RSV) is the radiopharmaceutical application of colloidal solution to joint cavities. In this study, the authors assessed the effica...

OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to evaluate the long term effect of radiation synovectomy with yttrium-90 silicate in haemophiliac patients with recurrent haemarthrosis. METHODS The bleeding frequency and the mobility of the joint were recorded in 16 joints of 14 patients 1 year before radiosynovectomy and during follow up, which ranged from 3 to 6 years. Patients evaluated the effect of...

Radionuclide synovectomy is a minimally invasive method of treating persistent joint inflammation. It involves intra-articular injection of radioactive colloids which induce necrosis and fibrosis of hypertrophic synovial membrane. The most common indication for radiosynovectomy is rheumatoid arthritis, although patients with seronegative spondyloarthropathies, unclassified arthritis, haemophili...

Synovial chondromatosis of the elbow is an uncommon condition. However, a chondrosarcoma arising from the former is remarkably rare. The authors report a case of an elbow chondrosarcoma secondary to synovial chondromatosis in a 38-year-old woman. Before the development of chondrosarcoma, the patient underwent 3 operations and 3 sessions of radiosynovectomy because of continuous recurrence of sy...
