Insufficiency of potable water is acute in southwest (SW) coastal areas Bangladesh. The local population ignores the depth to saltwater/freshwater interface causing many unsuccessful waters wells drilling. In this context, a combined use borehole logs, geophysical well vertical electrical soundings (VES), resistivity tomography (ERT) and conductivity (EC) sampled was performed identify depths p...

We report a case of a patient who developed cystitis caused by non-serogroup O1 Vibrio cholerae after swimming in the Chesapeake Bay. Treatment was empirical, with complete symptomatic resolution. Genitourinary tract infections by Vibrio spp. are uncommon but should be considered when cystitis occurs after saltwater exposure in appropriate geographic regions.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (USEPA) current ambient water quality criteria (AWQC) for cyanide were developed in 1984. Since this time, additional research on cyanide toxicity and analytical chemistry has suggested that cyanide AWQC values need to be updated to reflect the current state-of-the-science and to ensure that the methods for implementing the cyanide AWQC reflect the bio...

Besides its role in digestion and nutrient absorption, the crustacean gut participates in osmo/ionic regulation. We investigate microanatomy, ionic permeability and transepithelial electrophysiological parameters in the mid- and hindguts of three hyperosmoregulating crabs that inhabit estuarine waters (Chasmagnathus granulata), brackish mangrove swamp (Sesarma rectum) or freshwater (Dilocarcinu...

Abstract During the past few years, number of regional and national assessments groundwater quality in regard to saltwater intrusion coastal aquifers has increased steadily. However, most international literature on is focused plains with unconsolidated material. Case studies, modelling approaches parameter studies dealing those systems are abundant. While hydrogeology fractured rock been inten...

Methods employed by Australian quarantine officers to control Aedes mosquitoes in containers were tested against all stages of Aedes aegypti. Saltwater emersion killed all larvae but not pupae or eggs that were briefly exposed. Swimming pool chlorine, methyl bromide fumigation, and permethrin (2% active ingredient) spray provided 100% mortality of eggs, larvae, and pupae. Aerosol sprays incorpo...

This article presents an experiment designed to test the reliability of the benefit function transfer approach using contingent valuation methods. The experiment uses data collected from anglers surveyed across eight contiguous Texas Gulf Coast bay regions over three distinct time periods. Results indicate that the benefit function transfer approach tends to over-estimate benefits, implying tha...
