The mammary gland, like most tissues, produces measurable amounts of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), a metabolite of arachidonic acid produced by sequential actions of two cyclooxygenases (COX-1 and COX-2) and three terminal PGE synthases: microsomal prostaglandin E2 synthase-1 (mPGES1), mPGES2, and cytosolic prostaglandin E2 synthase (cPGES). High PGE2 levels and COX-2 overexpression are frequently d...

OBJECTIVE To determine amniotic fluid prostaglandin E2 concentrations in women preterm prelabor rupture of the membranes (PPROM) with respect to microbial invasion of the amniotic cavity (MIAC), intraamniotic inflammation (IAI), microbial-associated IAI, histological chorioamnionitis, and short-term neonatal morbidity. METHODS One hundred forty-five women with singleton pregnancies were inclu...

objective(s):estrogen (e2) has neuroprotective effects on blood-brain-barrier (bbb) after traumatic brain injury (tbi). in order to investigate the roles of estrogen receptors (ers) in these effects, er-α antagonist (mpp) and, er-β antagonist (phtpp), or non-selective estrogen receptors antagonist (ici 182780) were administered. materials and methods: ovariectomized rats were divided into 10 gr...

Previous studies in our laboratory have demonstrated that prostaglandin (PG) E2 is involved in anorexia/cachexia development in MCG 101 tumor-bearing mice. In the present study, we investigate the role of PGE receptor subtype EP2 in the development of anorexia after MCG 101 implantation in wild-type (EP2 (+/+)) or EP2-receptor knockout (EP2(-/-)) mice. Our results showed that host absence of EP...

Prostaglandin 9-ketoreductase (PG-9-KR) was purified from pig kidney to homogeneity, as judged by SDS/PAGE using an improved procedure. The enzyme is pro-S stereoselective with regard to hydrogen transfer from NADPH with prostaglandin E2 as substrate and reduces its 9-keto group with approximately 90% stereoselectivity to form prostaglandin F2 alpha. Approximately 8% of the prostaglandin F form...

The synthesis of gastric and duodenal mucosal prostaglandin E2, prostaglandin I2, and thromboxane B2 during a 60 minute incubation of biopsy specimens, the degree of endoscopic and histological damage, and the anti-inflammatory response were all studied after a four week, double blind study of therapeutic doses of two non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, naproxen and etodolac, received by 27 ...

In 16 patients suffering from cerebrovascular events, prostaglandin (PG) E2 was measured in their cerebrospinal fluid and correlated with their clinical status and evolution. Prostaglandin E2 ranged from 200-3000 pg (picogram)/ml of cerebrospinal fluid. A positive correlation was found between PG E2 levels and the severity and clinical outcome of the stroke.
