The aim of the present study is a comparative assessment echocardiographic characteristics in female and male mongrel rats. In experiments on anesthetized rats (ketamine 100 mg / kg, iv), it was shown that rats, size volume left ventricle are smaller than males, but compared with their ventricular ejection fraction, which characterizes its inotropic function, statistically significantly higher.

Background and purpose: Propofol causes pain and hypotension when it was injected. Magnesium (Mg) and ketamine are antagonists of the N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptor ion channel and cause analgesia. In view of the analgesic activity of Mg and ketamine, we tested the effect of intravenous administration of magnesium sulfate in reducing pain induced by propofol. Materials and Methods:Two ...

OBJECTIVE The N-methyl-D-Aspartate (NMDA) receptor has been proposed as a primary target for the treatment of neuropathic pain. The aim of the present study was to perform a meta-analysis evaluating the effects of (individual) NMDA receptor antagonists on neuropathic pain, and the response (sensitivity) of individual neuropathic pain disorders to NMDA receptor antagonist therapy. DESIGN PubMe...

Studies designed to assess persistent postoperative pain (PPP) incidence after hepatectomies are lacking. Our aim was to assess PPP incidence 6 months after hepatectomies with intravenous (IV) or epidural (EPI) analgesia containing ketamine.Prospective observational comparative study between 2 cohorts of patients submitted to hepatectomy. Patients received 1 of 2 analgesic regimes containing ke...

In non-obese patients ketamine decreases inflammatory responses and prevents overexpression of immune responses. Its effect in obese patients is unknown. This prospective, blinded, randomized controlled trial was designed to determine the effect of ketamine on cytokines and immune cell responses after short-duration surgery in obese patients. Thirty-six patients received either ketamine 0.15 mg...
