on antiphospholipid antibodies. This registry is a database in a web-based format that includes all patients with CAPS published or reported directly to the CAPS Registry Project Group. Their results are freely available on the web site: https://ontocrf. costaisa.com/en/web/caps. In the present issue of this journal, De Meis et al. [4] describe the development of CAPS in four patients with mali...

The smallest known complete caps in PG(n, 2) have size 23(2(n−6)/2) − 3 if n ≥ 10 is even and size 15(2(n−5)/2) − 3 if n ≥ 9 is odd. Here we give a simple construction of complete caps in PG(n, 2) of size 24(2(n−6)/2)− 3 if n is even and size 16(2(n−5)/2)− 3 if n is odd. Thus these caps are only slightly larger than the smallest complete caps known in PG(n, 2). © 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights r...

In [4], a characterization theorem for Veronesean varieties in PG(N,K), with K a skewfield, is proved. This result extends the theorem for the finite case proved in [6]. In this paper, we prove analogous results for Hermitian varieties, extending the results obtained in the finite case in [1] in a non-trivial way.

In the binary projective spaces PG(n,2) k-caps are called large if k > 2n−1 and small if k ≤ 2n−1. In this paper we propose new constructions producing infinite families of small binary complete caps.

Epoxidized soybean oil (ESBO) was surveyed in the 103 samples of cap sealing for bottled foods on the Japanese market. Most of the sealings were made of polyvinyl chloride, while a few were made of polyethylene or acrylic resin. All the sealings contained ESBO in the range of 0.006-42.4%. Sealings for baby food, jam, etc. contained higher levels of ESBO, though those for beverages contained low...

The original CAPS formulation focused on the role of the individual's CAPS system in relation to situations, formalizing a person-situation framework. Subsequent research and theorizing on the culturally embedded CAPS system (C-CAPS) began to spell out how culture, context, and group-level processes intersect with both persons and situations. The contributions in this special section provide in...

“Welfare reform” is a political force that has held American family policy in its grip for the past decade. A particularly problematic component of such reform efforts is the policy of establishing “family caps” or “child exclusions.” Family caps end the traditional system of welfare beneats that increase with family size and instead freeze the amount of a family’s welfare grant at a level corr...

We examined the utility of a PCR-based method termed cleaved amplified polymorphic sequences (CAPS) to type 35 well-characterized isolates of Staphylococcus epidermidis. The results were compared with detailed epidemiologic information and typing obtained by using pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE). To identify CAPS markers for this study, eight pairs of oligonucleotide primers correspondi...
