Cholinesterases are measured to assess exposures to or effects of organophosphorus esters and carbamates. Plasma butyrylcholinesterase is usually most sensitive to inhibitors, but it has no known physiological function(s); its inhibition reflects exposure. The physiological function of erythrocyte acetylcholinesterase (AChE) also is not known, but the enzyme is the same as that involved in syna...

Activated and non-activated aryl bromides undergo smooth ligand-less Heck reactions, provided low amounts of palladium salts such as Pd(OAc)2 are used (ideally 0.01-0.1 mol%). This industrially viable process appears to involve palladium nanoparticles.

OBJECTIVE Paraoxonase is a high density lipoprotein-associated anti-oxidant enzyme. The aim of this study was to investigate the serum paraoxonase and arylesterase activities and associations between these enzymes and lipid hydroperoxide (LOOH) in preeclamptic patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study included 47 preeclamptic (25 severe and 22 mild preeclampsia cases) and 20 normotensive heal...

The Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel (Panel) reviewed the safety of 6 dialkyl malate compounds used in cosmetics. These ingredients function mostly as skin-conditioning agents-emollients. The Panel reviewed relevant animal and human data related to the ingredients along with a previous safety assessment of malic acid. The similar structure, properties, functions, and uses of these ingred...

The gene encoding organophosphorus hydrolase (OPH) from Flavobacterium species was expressed on the cell surface of Saccharomyces cerevisiae MT8-1 using a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor linked to the C-terminal region of OPH. Immunofluorescence microscopy confirmed the localization of OPH on the cell surface, and fluorescence intensity measurement of cells revealed that 1.4 x 10(4) m...

A method was developed to monitor dynamic changes in protein structure and interfacial behavior on surfaces by single-molecule Förster resonance energy transfer. This method entails the incorporation of unnatural amino acids to site-specifically label proteins with single-molecule Förster resonance energy transfer probes for high-throughput dynamic fluorescence tracking microscopy on surfaces. ...

The reaction of triarylantimony diacetates [Ar3Sb(OAc)2] with dialkyl H-phosphites [H-PO(OR)2] in the presence of a Pd(PPh3)4 (5 mol%) catalyst led to the formation of arylphosphonates in moderate to excellent yield under base-free conditions. This reaction is the first example of carbon-phosphorus bond formation by using an organoantimony compound as a pseudo-halide.

Objective Human serum paraoxonase (PON1) prevents lipids from peroxidation and functions as an antioxidant mechanism. Malonyldialdehyde (MDA) is the final product of lipid peroxidation and can be used as an indicator of oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to investigate PON1, MDA, and arylesterase (ARY) levels in schizophrenic patients who are taking typical, atypical, or combined (typi...

BACKGROUND Paraoxonase 1 (PON1) is an enzyme that detoxifies activated organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) and is also involved in oxidative stress pathways. OBJECTIVES PON1 activity in newborns is lower than in adults, but the ontogeny of PON1 activity is poorly characterized in young children. We examined the effects of age and PON1 genotype on enzyme activity in a birth cohort of Mexican-Ame...

The molecular structure of the bulky primary silane, (Me(3)Si)(3)CSiH(3), in the gas phase has been determined by electron diffraction. Photolysis of (Me(3)Si)(3)CSiH(3) affords a convenient route to the bulky dialkyl disilane, [(Me(3)Si)(3)CSiH(2)](2), which is the first 1,2-dialkyldisilane to be structurally characterised by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The disilane has an unusually larg...
