Highly porous poly(D,L-lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) scaffolds were fabricated by a thermally-induced phase-separation (TIPS) method to deliver plasmid DNA in a controlled manner. A variety of TIPS parameters directly affecting pore structures and their interconnectivities of the scaffold, such as polymer concentration, solvent/non-solvent ratio, quenching methods and annealing time, were sys...

Despite the critical role of plasmids in horizontal gene transfer, few studies have characterized plasmid relatedness among different bacterial populations. Recently, a multiplex PCR replicon typing protocol was developed for classification of plasmids occurring in members of the Enterobacteriaceae. Here, a simplified version of this replicon typing procedure which requires only three multiplex...

OBJECTIVES The goal of resident selection is twofold: (1) select candidates who will be successful residents and eventually successful practitioners and (2) avoid selecting candidates who will be unsuccessful residents and/or eventually unsuccessful practitioners. Traditional tools used to select residents have well-known limitations. The Hartman Value Profile (HVP) is a proven adjuvant tool to...

Escherichia coli is a bacteria belonging to the family Enterobacteriaceae. harmful gram bacterium living in digestive tract. These also live water and soil, commonly referred as coliform. This research aims analyze plasmid profile of its resistance some antibiotics. To explore profiles recent electrophoresis gel, antibiotic used tests Amoxicillin, Tetracycline antibiotic, Ciprofloxacin, Sulfame...

In 1982 an increase of penicillinase producing strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae (PPNG), carrying the 4.5 megadalton Asian type plasmid and the 24 megadalton transfer plasmid (Asia+), was observed in Amsterdam. The main auxotypes were proline requiring (Pro-) and proline and hypoxanthine requiring (Pro-Hyx-). Using two monoclonal antibody systems, it was shown that the serovars of strains with t...

Plasmids were visualized in strains of Lactobacillus plantarum by use of a rapid method. Plasmids pIP501 and pAM beta 1 were transferred by conjugation from Streptococcus strains to Lactobacillus plantarum, and recipient strains were shown to act as donors in crosses to S. lactis. Attempts to transfer these plasmids between strains of L. plantarum were not successful.

Thirty-seven strains of Pseudomonas cepacia from clinical, pharmaceutical-industrial, and environmental origins were analyzed for the presence of plasmid DNA by a modification of the rapid alkaline extraction method of Birnboim (H. C. Birnboim, Methods Enzymol. 100:243-255, 1983). Plasmids were present in 31 strains (84%) from all sources, with no one source showing less than 75% plasmid carria...

High resolution melting profiles of four linearised plasmids (pUC9, pGV403, pHP2, and pBR322) were recorded by means of UV absorbance vs. temperature scanning. The set of transitions obtained for each plasmid are compared to each other and to the transitions obtained for their excised particular antibiotica resistance gene. It can be shown that each gene leaves a characteristic mark on the melt...

Background and Objectives: Human papilloma virus (HPV) is known as the etiologic agent of cervical cancer and second common cancer among women. HPV viruses with the elevated risk of infection have more potentiality to cause cancer. The carcinogenesis in these viruses is accomplished by oncoproteins such as E7. Employing DNA vaccines which code specific antigens such as E7 is a novel therapeutic...
