BACKGROUND Femoral hernias are relatively uncommon, however they are the most common incarcerated abdominal hernia, with strangulation of a viscus carrying significant mortality. Classically three approaches are described to open femoral hernia repair: Lockwood's infra-inguinal, Lotheissen's trans-inguinal and McEvedy's high approach. Each approach describes a separate skin incision and dissect...
Ultrasound is an important diagnostic tool in inguinal hernia and in the evaluation of the contents of the hernia sac. This report presents a case in which ultrasound revealed a herniated ectopic ovary, complicated by torsion of its vascular pedicle, in the right labia majora. We also present a brief discussion of ovarian hernia, its potential complications, and the treatments available.
INTRODUCTION An Amyand's hernia is a heterogeneous clinical condition defined by the presence of the vermiform appendix within an inguinal hernia sac, which may or may not contain other abdominal contents or pathologic inflammatory changes. Herein we present an exceptionally rare case of an Amyand's hernia containing acute appendicitis and a perforated cecum. PRESENTATION OF CASE A 46-year-ol...
This case is a rare aspect of left inguinal hernia. The patient was a 60-years old man with left scrotal mass since childhood. In the operating room, the hernia sac was opened which included cecum and appendix that is called left Amyand's hernia. The patient underwent herniorrhaphy with Lichtenstein repair.
In Amyand's hernia, the hernia sac contains the appendix. This can be normal and accidentally found during herniotomy or inflamed and present as acute scrotum, although the latter is less frequent. We present a case of a male infant with scrotal abscess resulting from Amyand's hernia, with appendicitis and periappendicular abscess.
Acute obstruction of a patent processus vaginalis occurred in two boys, mimicking incarceration of an inguinal hernia. In fact, obstruction was caused by an intussusception of the processus vaginalis forming an intussuscipiens that occluded the hernia sac. This lesion, described previously in 1896 and in 1974, is one of the mechanisms by which an asymptomatic hernia or hydrocele becomes acutely...
Umbilical hernia is one of the most common congenital pathologies of the anterior abdominal wall in children. Umbilical hernia in children has a high tendency for spontaneous closure. Surgical treatment is performed only for rarely occurring complications. Appendicitis within an umbilical hernia sac is a previously unreported complication for umbilical hernias. We report here the first case in ...

One of the most frequently performed operative procedures in pediatric age group is inguinal herniotomy. The traditional surgical approach is an exploration of the inguinal canal, dissection of the hernia sac from the spermatic cord and the hernia sac is closed at the level of the internal inguinal ring.1 To evaluate contra lateral defects during open inguinal hernia repair, laparoscopic telesc...
