The Dubins interval problem aims to find the shortest path of bounded curvature between two targets such that the departure angle from the first target and the arrival angle at the second target are constrained to two respective intervals. We propose a new and a simple algorithm to this problem based on the minimum principle of Pontryagin.

AIM To evaluate the effect of long haul airplane transport of donor livers on post-transplant outcomes. METHODS A retrospective cohort study of patients who received a liver transplantation was performed in Perth, Australia from 1992 to 2012. Donor and recipient characteristics information were extracted from Western Australian liver transplantation service database. Patients were followed up...

In-situ measurement of the upper ocean velocity discloses significant abnormal behaviors of two Wyrtki Jets (WJs) respectively in boreal spring and fall, over the tropical Indian Ocean in 2013. The two WJs both occurred within upper 130 m depth and persisted more than one month. The exceptional spring jet in May was unusually stronger than its counterpart in fall, which is clearly against the p...

[Abstract] The numerous benefits of enabling commercial airplanes to communicate over networks are only obtained at the price of introducing security threats to onboard systems. A primary threat arises from the opportunity for corruption of safety-critical and business-critical airplane loadable software distributed via networks from off-board systems. The FAA recognizes that the unprecedented ...

A variable-structure control system designed to enable a fuselage-heavy airplane to recover from spin has been demonstrated in a hand-launched, instrumented model glider airplane (see figure). It has long been known that the most effective spin recovery technique for fuselage-heavy aircraft involves the use of ailerons to roll the airplane into the spin. This technique might be considered count...

The accumulation of ice on an airplane in flight is one of the leading contributing factors to general aviation accidents, and to date only relatively sophisticated methods based on detailed empirical data and flight data exist for its analysis. This paper develops a methodology and simulation tool for a preliminary yet accurate evaluation of airplane dynamical response and stability and contro...

The fleet assignment problem (FAP) assigns the type of airplane at each flight segment. Since airplane is an expensive resource, poor fleet assignment can cause a great increase in costs of airlines. There are so many consideration which should be tackled in formulation of a FAP problem, especially the parameters regarding to the airplanes. This paper presents a novel, mixed integer programing ...
