If the baryon asymmetry in the present universe is generated by decays of the LHu flat direction, the observed baryon asymmetry requires the mass of the lightest neutrino to be much smaller than the mass scale indicated from the atmospheric and solar neutrino oscillations. Such a small mass of the lightest neutrino leads to a high predictability on the rate of the neutrinoless double beta (0νββ...

In this paper we point out that the cosmological baryon asymmetry in our universe is generated almost independently of the reheating temperature TR in Affleck-Dine leptogenesis and it is determined mainly by the mass of the lightest neutrino, mν1, in a wide range of the reheating temperature TR ≃ 105–1012 GeV. The present baryon asymmetry predicts the mν1 in a narrow region, mν1 ≃ (0.3– 1) × 10...

We argue that three-quark excited states naturally group into quartets, split into two parity doublets, and that the mass splittings between these parity partners decrease higher up in the baryon spectrum. This decreasing mass difference can be used to probe the running quark mass in the midinfrared power-law regime. A measurement of masses of high-partial-wave Delta* resonances should be suffi...

Extraction of correct mass splittings between vector and pseudoscalar mesons remains a challenging problem in lattice QCD. While quenched lattice QCD has been unable to extract correct mass splittings [1], so far this problem persists even with full lattice QCD [2]. One may thus ask whether lattice results for baryon mass splittings exhibit similar suppression compared to experimental numbers. ...

Masses of singly and doubly charmed baryons are calculated in quenched lattice QCD using an improved action of the D234 type on an anisotropic lattice. The mass differences between spin 3/2 and spin 1/2 baryon states are calculated and compared to mass differences between vector and pseudoscalar mesons. The suppression of spin splittings in mesons containing heavy quarks, characteristic of quen...

In CHPT the hadron masses obtain loop corrections from the pseudoscalar mesons which are identified with the Goldstone bosons of broken chiral symmetry. An expansion of the baryon mass in the quark masses therefore includes non-analytic terms. We calculate the nucleon mass in the one-loop approximation to order m ∼ mq. We compare the result in the relativistic and in the heavy mass formulation ...

The nonlinear evolution of a system consisting of collisional baryons and collisionless dark matter is generally characterized by strong shocks and discontinuities in the baryon fluid. The baryons slow down significantly at postshock areas of gravitational strong shocks, which can occur in high overdense as well as low overdense regions. On the other hand, the shocks do not affect the collapse ...

We present results on the mass of the nucleon and the ∆ using two dynamical degenerate twisted mass quarks. The evaluation is performed at four quark masses corresponding to a pion mass in the range of 690-300 MeV on lattices of size 2.1 fm and 2.7 fm. We check for cutoff effects by evaluating these baryon masses on lattices of spatial size 2.1 fm with lattice spacings a(β = 3.9) = 0.0855(6) fm...

The purpose of this note is to investigate problems of baryon isobars from the viewpoint of the unitary symmetry model_ll In this model, the mass differences among mesons and among baryons are neglected. As the result, one may wonder if such a model can be applicable to the study of the baryon isobars which appear in the meson-baryon scattering, where these mass differences are certainly not ne...

In an exclusive measurement of the reaction gammad-->K(+)K(-)pn, a narrow peak that can be attributed to an exotic baryon with strangeness S=+1 is seen in the K(+)n invariant mass spectrum. The peak is at 1.542+/-0.005 GeV/c(2) with a measured width of 0.021 GeV/c(2) FWHM, which is largely determined by experimental mass resolution. The statistical significance of the peak is (5.2+/-0.6)sigma. ...
