BACKGROUND AND AIMS The association of hepatic haemangiomas with female sex hormones is not entirely clear. We prospectively evaluated the impact of female sex hormones on the natural history of liver haemangiomas. METHODS We followed 94 women with 181 haemangiomas diagnosed by ultrasound for a period of1-17 years (mean 7.3 (5.5) years). The location, number, size, and ultrasonographic patter...
UNLABELLED Haemangiomas of the vertebrae, usually regarded as having little or no consequence, may display aggressive features, including extension into the extradural space, and cause significant neurological symptoms and signs necessitating treatment. Extraosseous haemangiomas in an extradural or intradural extramedullary location are a rare entity. Here we review our radiologic and pathologi...
A longitudinal study of 27 patients with infantile haemangiomas is reported. It confirmed the efficacy of local steroid injection as a method of treatment; 81.5% of patients showed a marked improvement, with the lesion reducing to 25% or less of its original size. Involution was most marked in the first two weeks but continued for up to four months after injection. Amblyopia was present in 43% ...
Haemangiomas are benign tumours growing by vascular endothelial hyperplasia, commonly occurring in females. The main types diagnosed in children are infantile haemangioma and congenital haemangioma, and these can also be found: in the liver, the gastrointestinal tract, intramuscularly, in vertebrae, intradurally, calvarially, and in the skull base. They can cause functional impairment, high out...
Objective: The objective was to simply and effectively treat oral haemangiomas without complications using ethanol injection. Methods: As much blood as possible was aspirated from a haemangioma, and then absolute ethanol was injected into the cavity. For especially large haemangiomas, we repeated the treatment. Results: Good results were obtained without complications, no enlargement or recurre...
INTRODUCTION Haemangiomas are common benign tumours of the vascular endothelium. They are extremely heterogenous clinically, with size, location and rate of proliferation having a significant effect on the risk of complications. MATERIALS AND METHODS The available evidence in the literature was evaluated using the grading system currently employed by the Ministry of Health, Singapore. RESUL...
Haemangiomas represent benign tumours of vascular origin. Cavernous haemangiomas are formed by cavernally widened irregular vascular spaces, lined with endothelia with no signs of atypia. In the fallopian tube haemangiomas are rare. In the available literature, only six cases were noted. We present a clinical and morphological case of a 69-year-old woman with cavernous haemangioma of the oviduct.
A full-term female newborn, with no significant past medical history, was referred to our department for treatment of an acute respiratory distress syndrome of neurological origin at day 8 of life. At birth, she presented with 3 small angiomatous papules and 4 subcutaneous nodules suggestive of neonatal haemangiomatosis (NH) (Fig. 1). A brain MRI revealed a highly vascularised brain stem tumour...
