Inelastic quasiparticle lifetime due to the electron-electron interaction (outscattering time in the kinetic equation formalism) is calculated for finite metallic diffusive systems (quantum dots) in the whole range of parameters. Both cases of “continuous” (the inelastic level broadening much exceeds the mean level spacing) and “discrete” spectrum are analyzed. In particular, crossover between ...

We study a model of freely cooling inelastic granular gas in one dimension, with a restitution coefficient which approaches the elastic limit below a relative velocity scale delta. While at early times (t<>delta;{-1}) it exhibits a new fluctuation-dominated phase orde...

We present resonant inelastic x-ray scattering and x-ray emission spectroscopy results on Gd metal to 113 GPa which suggest Kondo-like aspects in the delocalization of 4f electrons. Analysis of the resonant inelastic x-ray scattering data reveals a prolonged and continuous delocalization with volume throughout the entire pressure range, so that the volume-collapse transition at 59 GPa is only p...

We have investigated magnetic excitations for a mixed phase of hidden order (HO) and the antiferromagnetic (AF) order in U(Ru1−xRhx)2Si2 (x ≤ 0.03) by means of inelastic neutron scattering. The inelastic peaks observed at Q = (1, 0, 0) and (1,0.4,0) in the HO phase for x = 0 and 0.015 at 1.4 K are found to be strongly reduced in the AF dominant compositions of x = 0.02 and 0.03. Similar behavio...

The large strain behavior of filled rubbers is characterized by the strong Mullins effect, permanent set, and induced anisotropy. Strain controlled cyclic tests also exhibit a pronounced hysteresis as a strain rate independent phenomenon. Prediction of these inelastic features in elastomers is an important challenge with immense industrial and technological relevance. In the present paper, a mi...
