We consider inference for demographic models and parameters based upon postprocessing the output of an MCMC method that generates samples of genealogical trees (from the posterior distribution for a specific prior distribution of the genealogy). This approach has the advantage of taking account of the uncertainty in the inference for the tree when making inferences about the demographic model a...

After a critical examination of several attempts to characterize the Analytic tradition in philosophy, in the book here discussed Hanjo Glock goes on to contend thatAnalytic Philosophy is “a tradition that is held together both by ties of influence and by a family of partially overlapping features”. A special relational structure, called genealogical tree, is introduced; its social interpretation and geometrical realizations are discussed. The numbers Cn,k of all abstract genealogical trees with exactly n+1 nodes and k leaves is found by means of enumeration of code words. For each n, the Cn,k form a partition of the n-th Catalan numer Cn, that means Cn,1 + Cn,2 + · · ·+ Cn,n = Cn.
