A mathematical analysis of the formation of hemolytic plaques in agar is presented. The results can be used to calculate the rate constant for antigen-antibody association and the distribution of antibody secretion rates. The limitations of the treatment and estimates of the expected errors involved are briefly discussed.

Macrocyclic ligands form highly selective and kinetically labile complexes with a wide range of cations, including alkali metal and alkaline earth cations. Formation rate constants are high and remarkably insensitive to ligand structure, but decrease systematically with increasing charge density of the cation this behaviour is qualitatively similar to that expected for the dissociative intercha...

Thermodynamics and kinetics of off-lattice models with side chains for the b-hairpin fragment of immunoglobulin-binding protein and its variants are reported. For all properties (except refolding time tF) there are no qualitative differences between the full model and the Go# version. The validity of the models is established by comparison of the calculated native structure with the Protein Dat...

We investigate the kinetics of loop formation in ideal flexible polymer chains (the Rouse model), and polymers in good and poor solvents. We show for the Rouse model, using a modification of the theory of Szabo, Schulten, and Schulten, that the time scale for cyclization is tau(c) approximately tau(0)N(2) (where tau(0) is a microscopic time scale and N is the number of monomers), provided the c...

Morphine elimination involves UDP-glucuronosyltransferase (UGT) catalyzed conjugation with glucuronic acid to form morphine 3and 6-glucuronides (M3G and M6G, respectively). It has been proposed that UGT2B7 is the major enzyme involved in these reactions, but there is evidence to suggest that other isoforms also catalyze morphine glucuronidation in man. Thus, we have characterized the selectivit...

In this article, a detailed study on hop alpha-acid isomerization kinetics is presented. Because of the complex wort matrix and interfering interactions occurring during real wort boiling (i.e., trub formation and alpha-acids/iso-alpha-acids complexation), this investigation on alpha-acid isomerization kinetics was performed in aqueous buffer solution as a function of time (0-90 min) and heatin...

In order to use TNT in military industries, its impurities have to be removed. The further nitration of m-nitrotoluene (by-product of the first step nitration), cause to the formation of asymmetric products which during the purification step, these tri-nitrated and asymmetric products lead to the formation of red water as a main environmental pollutant. This pollutant remains in the environment...

The enzyme kinetic profiles of the formation of resveratrol-3-O-glucuronide (R3G) and resveratrol-4'-O-glucuronide (R4'G) by liver microsomes from humans, dogs, and rodents were investigated. Glucuronidation by human and dog liver microsomes to R3G and R4'G occurred for about 65% of applied resveratrol, and was significantly reduced to 10% when substrate concentration was increased 10-fold. In ...
