Cytokines are subdivided in 12 sub-families and are described as multi-functional molecules that play an important biological activity in host defense system against pathogens, in homeostasis, tissue repair, cell growth and development. CytokineDB is an annotated database that collects biological information regarding the cytokines family in human and will be periodically updated by including n...
We propose a new way of using geometric transitions to study metastable vacua in string theory and certain confining gauge theories. The gauge theories in question are N = 2 supersymmetric theories deformed to N = 1 by superpotential terms. We first geometrically engineer supersymmetry-breaking vacua by wrapping D5 branes on rigid 2-cycles in noncompact Calabi-Yau geometries, such that the cent...
The rdgB mutants depend on recombinational repair of double-strand breaks. To assess other consequences of rdgB inactivation in Escherichia coli, we isolated RdgB-dependent mutants. All transposon inserts making cells dependent on RdgB inactivate genes of double-strand break repair, indicating that chromosomal fragmentation is the major consequence of RdgB inactivation.

The human RAD52 protein plays an important role in the earliest stages of chromosomal double-strand break repair via the homologous recombination pathway. Individual subunits of RAD52 self-associate into rings that can then form higher order complexes. RAD52 binds to double-strand DNA ends, and recent studies suggest that the higher order self-association of the rings promotes DNA end-joining. ...

A DNA double-strand break can be efficiently repaired in Escherichia coli if an oligodeoxyribonucleotide is provided to direct the repair. The oligonucleotide must be at least 20 residues long and have a sequence identical to sequences flanking the break. The phenomenon can be used to introduce defined mutations into DNA in the area of a double-strand break. To obtain mutants, the oligonucleoti...
Ku protein binds to DNA ends and is a cofactor for the DNA-dependent protein kinase. Both of these components are involved in DNA double-strand break repair, but it has not been clear if they function indirectly, by sensing DNA damage and activating other factors, or if they are more directly involved in the processing and rejoining of DNA breaks. We demonstrate that intermolecular ligation of ...
