The decarboxylation of free carboxylic acids was effected by a photogenerated cation radical of phenanthrene to yield the reduction product in the presence of a thiol, which provides an alternative method to the Barton decarboxylation procedure for aliphatic acids such as N-Boc amino acids.

Comparative kinetic studies at pH 6.8, 7.3, and 8.0 reveal that the phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase-catalyzed inosine trlphosphate-dependent oxalacetate-H14C0sexchange is much more rapid than either the over-all decarboxylation or carboxylation reactions. At pH 6.8, the relative carboxylation, decarboxylation, and oxalacetate-H14C03exchange rates are 1.0, 8.3, and 30, respectively. While the ...

Atmospheric photochemistry induced by solar excitation of vibrational overtone transitions has recently been demonstrated to be of importance in cleaving weak bonds (in HO(2)NO(2)) and inducing intramolecular rearrangement followed by reaction (in H(2)SO(4)). Here, we propose another potentially important process: the decarboxylation of organic acids. To demonstrate this possibility, we have ca...

Soil is an important compartment in the environmental cycling of trichloroacetic acid (TCA), but soil TCA concentration is a methodologically defined quantity; analytical methods either quantify TCA in an aqueous extract of the soil, or thermally decarboxylate TCA to chloroform in the whole soil sample. The former may underestimate the total soil TCA, whereas the latter may overestimate TCA if ...

Abstract Aromatic carboxylic acids are prone to decarboxylate in high-temperature water (HTW). While the decarboxylation kinetics of several aromatic have been explored, studies on their compatibility with organic syntheses HTW scarce. Herein, we report hydrothermal synthesis (HTS) 2,3-diarylquinoxaline from 1,2-diarylketones and 3,4-diaminobenzoic acid. A detailed study reaction parameters was...
