Multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (MDRAB) is an increasing problem worldwide. Prevalence of carbapenem resistance in Acinetobacter spp. due to acquired carbapenemase genes is not known in Finland. The purpose of this study was to examine prevalence and clonal spread of multiresistant A. baumannii group species, and their carbapenemase genes. A total of 55 Acinetobacter isolates were e...
Aim:Carbapenemase-producing organisms are Gram-negative bacteria that resistant to most, sometimes all, antibiotics with their carbapenemase enzymes. Rapid and accurate detection of carbapenemases is essential for the early prevention nosocomial infections.
 Material Method:The study included 72 isolates, 64 containing Oxa-48, 6 NDM, 2 NDM+Oxa-48 16 isolates without carbapenemase, isolated...
Carbapenemase-producing Gram-negative bacilli, i.e., Enterobacterales, Pseudomonas aeruginosa , and Acinetobacter are of increased concern for the public health around world. There is urgent need rapid accurate tests in order to provide correct treatment prevent bacterial spread healthcare settings. The aim this study was evaluate three commercial multiplex carbapenemase with CE-IVD marking: Ea...
OBJECTIVE To evaluate ertapenem disk performance to predict Klebsiella pneumonie carbapenemase production by Gram-negative bacilli. METHODS All Gram-negative bacilli isolated between January 2010 and June 2011 were tested by disk diffusion (Oxoid™) for sensitivity to ertapenem, meropenem and imipenem. Resistant or intermediate sensitivity strains (diameter < 22 mm for ertapenem) were also tes...
Background: We evaluated the carbapenem inactivation method (CIM) compared with the modified Hodge test (MHT) for the detection of carbapenemase-producing Gram-negative bacilli. Methods: A total of 61 isolates of carbapenemaseproducing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE: 14 KPC, 7 GES5, 8 NDM-1, 9 VIM-2, 9 IMP-1, and 14 OXA-48-like), 34 isolates of metallo-β-lactamase (MBL)-producing Pseudomonas spp. (14 ...
Resistance to Tigecycline and/or Colistin among nosocomial pathogens is an emerging problem. Objective of the study was to record the drug susceptibility pattern of carbapenemase producing gram negative bacteria causing various nosocomial infections. This study was performed over six months from January to June2013 with 167 nonrepeat culture isolates causing various nosocomial infections.Antimi...
Accurate detection of carbapenemase-producing Gram-negative bacilli is of utmost importance for the control of nosocomial spread and the initiation of appropriate antimicrobial therapy. The modified Hodge test (MHT), a carbapenem inactivation assay, has shown poor sensitivity in detecting the worldwide spread of New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase (NDM). Recent studies demonstrated that NDM is a lipo...
BACKGROUND Resistance to carbapenem antibiotics is emerging worldwide among Enterobacteriaceae. To prevent hospital transmission due to unnoticed carriage of carbapenemase producing micro-organisms in newly admitted patients, or follow-up of patients in an outbreak setting, a molecular screening method was developed for detection of the most prevalent carbapenemase genes; blaOXA-48, blaVIM, bla...
We report the epidemiological impact of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) in Spain in 2012. Of the 237 carbapenemases detected, 163 were from the OXA-48 group, 60 were from VIM-1, 8 were from KPC-2, 5 were from IMP, and 1 was from NDM-1. Interhospital spread of carbapenemase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae was due to a limited number of multilocus sequence types (MLST) and carbap...
Biochemical tests have been previously developed to identify carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas spp. (Carba NP test) and Acinetobacter spp. (CarbAcineto NP test). We evaluated a modified Carba NP test to detect carbapenemase production in Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas and Acinetobacter species using a single protocol with rapid results and found good reliability and speed.
