in a comparative study, 460 serum samples were tested for the serological determination of human immunodeficiency vrius (hiv) using an elisa kit and a rapid test kit. results indicated that the rapid test is reliable for screening unkonwn samples when there is no special equipment for screening with immunoblotting and/or elisa.

BACKGROUND S100B protein is a potential biomarker of central nervous system insult. This study quantitatively compared two methods for assessing serum concentration of S100B. METHODS A prospective, observational study performed in a single tertiary medical center. Included were fifty two consecutive adult patients undergoing surgery for meningioma that provided blood samples for determination...

AIM To determine if the diuretic spironolactone cross reacts with 17alpha-hydroxyprogesterone (17OHP) in an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit used for the mass screening of congenital adrenal hyperplasia. METHODS Concentrations of 17OHP on a blood filter paper disc were measured using an ELISA kit (kit C-7: ENZAPLATE N-17alpha -OHP-7; Chiron, Tokyo, Japan). The cross reactivity of...

The Binax and the Biotest urinary antigen kits for the detection of Legionnaires' disease caused by organisms other than Legionella pneumophila were compared by testing 45 urine samples from non-Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 patients previously positive in a broad-spectrum enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Eighteen were positive with the Binax kit, and 13 were positive with the Bi...

BACKGROUND Brucellosis is the most common bacterial zoonosis, and serological tests are routinely used in brucellosis control and eradication programs. In order to improve the accuracy of serological diagnostic method used in bovine brucellosis detection, this study developed an improved competitive ELISA with higher specificity and good sensitivity. RESULTS This study prepared 12 monoclonal ...

Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC), a subset of Shiga toxin producing E. coli (STEC) is associated with a spectrum of diseases that includes diarrhea, hemorrhagic colitis and a life-threatening hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS). Regardless of serotype, Shiga toxins (Stx1 and/or Stx2) are uniformly expressed by all EHEC, and so exploitable targets for laboratory diagnosis of these pathogens...

The results of a field trial of a joint DMRQC/Organon ELISA kit for the detection of hepatitis A IgM antibody are reported. The participating laboratories were asked to use the kit to test a panel of 360 specimens consisting of duplicate coded samples of 180 sera. The panel was also tested by MACRIA in the Virus Reference Laboratory, Colindale. The ELISA was shown to be specific and sensitive g...

In this study a disperse dye immunoassay method was standardized and evaluated for detection of antibodies against Neospora caninum in cattle. Sera from 150 cattle with a recent history of abortion were collected and tested by commercial ELISA kit and a standardized in-house dye immunoassay system. The positivity rate for the sera used in this study was 34.6% for the disperse dye immunoassay (D...

A new Enzyme Linked Immuno Sorbent Assay (ELISA) kit for the determination of serum ferritin has been compared with another ferritin kit based on the Immuno Radio-Metric Assay (IRMA) approach, both assays containing similar antibodies. Based on these studies, we found the within-run precision of the ELISA (and IRMA) to have coefficients of variation of 4-10% and 2-6% respectively, over a concen...
