Intravenous drug abuse is an increasing social and health problem. Repeated injuries to the veins, injection of some types of insoluble substances, and needle sharing habits result in various complications. Increasing incidence of major vascular complications has been reported worldwide. The objective of this study was to determine the epidemiology of vascular lesions in drug abusers. Medical r...
BACKGROUND Most insulin pumps used for the treatment of diabetes perform subcutaneous insulin injections by pulses. The purpose of this work is to analyze the effects of pulsatile injections of modern insulins on plasma insulin levels compared with a continuous insulin infusion. METHOD We simulate pulsatile implementations of a basal rate profile over a day on a type 1 diabetes mellitus patie...
Pulsatile tinnitus synchronous with heartbeat is rare and normally has vascular origin: arterial (malformation, arterial anatomical variation) or venous (aberrant jugular bulb, glomus tumors, tympanic glomus tumor). Early etiology identification is essential for appropriate treatment to be established. Magnetic angioresonance makes the vascular identification possible and precise. We report a c...
We present an unusual case of subjective right-sided pulsatile tinnitus that resolved spontaneously within a few weeks after diagnostic superselective angiography. The possibility of dural arteriovenous fistula should be kept in mind even in subjective tinnitus. Conventional angiography may be the only modality that shows the abnormality.
In order to study rapid changes in 15-ketodihydro-PGF2 alpha, cortisol and progesterone in the period preceding parturition in cattle, pre-term parturition was induced in 4 late pregnant heifers. Parturitions were induced by 2 intramuscular injections of 20 mg dexamethasone with a 24-h interval. The first injection was made on days 254, 258, 264 and 265 in gestation, respectively. Twenty-four h...
A 52-year-old female underwent elective diagnostic cardiac catheterization for a chest pain syndrome and an abnormal exercise stress test. Standard Seldinger technique with a 6 French femoral sheath was used. After femoral sheath removal, hemostasis was achieved by direct pressure on the groin for 20 minutes, followed by a pressure dressing. She had been taking aspirin (325 mg/day). One week la...
OBJECTIVE To characterize the association between arterial blood pressure (ABP) and intracranial pressure (ICP) in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) patients, and its impact on outcome of shunt surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS We analyzed all 35 iNPH patients whose ABP and ICP were recorded simultaneously during 6 years (2002-2007). The static and pulsatile pressures were averaged...
A 81-year-old woman with previous history of ulcertive colitis under corticotherapy was admitted to the mergency room with a two-day history of melena with rthostatic hypotension and severe anemia (hemoglobin evel of 5.2 g/dL). Emergency upper endoscopy was perormed and a large deep ulcer with a pulsatile visible essel was seen along the posterior aspect of the duodenal ulb (Fig. 1). Hemostatic...
Tissue Solidification in Coping with Tract Bleeding: Hemostatic Effect of Injection of 99.5% Ethanol
ASAKI S. Tissue Solidification in Coping with Digestive Tract Bleeding: Hemostatic Effect of Local Injection of 99.5% Ethanol. Tohoku J. exp. Med., 1981, 134 (3), 223-227 Tatsuka et al. reported a local injection of 95% ethanol as a new endoscopic treatment of gastric protuberant lesions. In this method, the present author discovered that 99.5% ethanol injection has an excellent hemostatic effe...
