In this paper, we propose a noise filtering scheme, which is based on a multichannel homomorphic transformation, for color photographic images corrupted by signal–dependent film grain noise. The proposed method performs the estimation of the noise parameter using the higher–order statistics (skewness or kurtosis) of the corrupted image and the filtered image statistics. This parameter estimatio...

How does it work? During a mammogram, a patient’s breast is placed on a flat support plate and compressed with a parallel plate called a paddle. An x-ray machine produces a small burst of x-rays that pass through the breast to a detector located on the opposite side. The detector can be either a photographic film plate, which captures the x-ray image on film, or a solid-state detector, which tr...

Digital cameras have started to replace analog film cameras for many applications. Considering the huge consumer market of small format cameras and compact cameras or the professional medium format or large format photography, digital senors are on the advance. The comparison between digital and film-based data is done taking into account photographic and photogrammetric issues. Not only radiom...

Kodak fine grain positive photographic emulsion has characteristics of speed, contrast, and grain size favorable for recording the low contrast electron images Of thin-sectioned biological material. In addition, the rendition of detail by this emulsion appears to be of superior quality to that obtained on conventional lantern slide emulsions. By special order, Eastman Kodak provides fine grain ...

From 1924 to 1948, developmental psychologist Arnold Gesell regularly used photographic and motion picture technologies to collect data on infant behavior. The film camera, he said, records behavior "in such coherent, authentic and measurable detail that ... the reaction patterns of infant and child become almost as tangible as tissue." This essay places his faith in the fidelity and tangibilit...

SMPTE Journal, April 2001 K Ektachrome 100D color reversal film/5285 was introduced to the motion picture market in December 1999. Its release marked the culmination of a number of years of work on the part of researchers in both Kodak’s Color Reversal and Entertainment Imaging R&D groups. The design concept was to create a highly saturated color reversal film at an EI100 speed without compromi...

We present an algorithm suitable for the compensation of flicker in archived film sequences. The proposed method is a substantial improvement over our previous work which adopted a nonlinear approach to flicker compensation motivated by fundamental principles of photographic image registration. The improvements include reliability weighting, spatial adaptation and motion compensated weighting. ...

This paper describes a method and a control system of a scanning electron and a bremsstrahlung pulsed beam for industrial linac. The system uses ultrasonic emission generated by the beam in thin rods and plates, as a source of primary information about the current characteristics of each electron/bremsstrahlung pulse. The results of the uniform radiation field forming are discussed.
