We summarize the detections of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) emission from neutron stars. Three rm detections have been made of spin-powered pulsars: the aged millisecond pulsar PSR J0437?4715, the middle-aged X-ray pulsar Geminga, and the radio pulsar PSR B0656+14. These observations allow us to evaluate both power-law and thermal-law emission models as the source of the EUV ux. For the case of PS...

We present the results of a combined investigation of the spectral and kHz QPO evolution around the Z-track in GX5-1 based on high-quality Rossi-XTE data. In spectral analysis, we find that the Extended ADC emission model provides very good fits to all of the spectra, and the results point clearly to a model for the nature of the Z-track in this source, in agreement with previous results for th...

The β-delayed neutron emission probabilities of neutron rich Hg and Tl nuclei have been measured together with β-decay half-lives for 20 isotopes of Au, Hg, Tl, Pb, and Bi in the mass region N≳126. These are the heaviest species where neutron emission has been observed so far. These measurements provide key information to evaluate the performance of nuclear microscopic and phenomenological mode...

Multiplicities of intermediate-mass fragments (IMFs), neutrons, and charged particles were measured for 112Sn 1 112Sn and 124Sn 1 124Sn at EyA 40 MeV. Significantly different scalings of the mean IMF multiplicities with neutron and charged-particle multiplicities are observed for the two reactions. These differences can be qualitatively understood in terms of fragment emission from an expandi...

An apparatus for measuring parity-violating asymmetries in gamma-ray emission following polarized cold neutron capture was constructed as a 1/10th scale test of the design for the forthcoming −→n + p → d + γ experiment at LANSCE. The elements of the polarized neutron beam, including a polarized He neutron spin filter and a radio frequency neutron spin rotator, are described. Using CsI(Tl) detec...

We study neutrino energy emission rates (emissivities) due to electron bremsstrahlung produced by ee and ep collisions in the superfluid neutron star cores. The neutrino emission due to ee collisions is shown to be the dominant neutrino reaction at not too high temperatures (T <∼ 10 8 K) in dense matter if all other neutrino reactions involving nucleons are strongly suppressed by neutron and pr...

The prompt neutron and γ emission from primary fission fragments are calculated for thermal neutron induced fission of 235U and 239Pu and for spontaneous fission of 252Cf using a Monte Carlo Hauser-Feshbach approach for the evaporation of the excited fission fragments. Remaining free model parameters, such as excitation energy sharing and initial spin distribution, are determined by comparison ...
