Background and Objectives: Adsorption is one of the most common methods for VOCs elimination from waste air stream. The study on the application of a selective and cheap adsorbent with high efficiency in VOCs removal is important from economic aspects. In this study, the potential of MnO/GAC and MgO/GAC composites was investigated for toluene adsorption from air stream at  lab scale. Materia...

The reaction mechanism for conversion of MnO nanoparticles to Mn-ferrite nanoparticles was studied, which involved sequential consumption of MnO and the growth of ferrite. The method could be applied to other ferrite nanoparticles including cobalt ferrite.

Rat glioma cells were labeled using electroporation with either manganese oxide (MnO) or superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) nanoparticles. The viability and proliferation of SPIO-labeled cells (1.9 mg Fe/ml) or cells electroporated with a low dose of MnO (100 microg Mn/ml) was not significantly different from unlabeled cells; a higher MnO dose (785 microg Mn/ml) was found to be toxic. The cell...

The sensitivity of transport in colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) manganites to external electric and magnetic fields is examined using field effect configurations with La(0.7)Ca(0.3)MnO(3) (LCMO), Na(0.7)Sr(0.3)MnO(3), La(0.7)Ba(0.3)MnO(3), and La(0.5)Ca(0.5)MnO(3) (0.5-doped LCMO) channels, and ferroelectric PbZr(0.2)Ti(0.8)O(3) (PZT) or dielectric (SrTiO(3)) gates. A large electroresistance (...

To develop active nonprecious metal-based electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), a limiting reaction in several emerging renewable energy technologies, a deeper understanding of the activity of the first row transition metal oxides is needed. Previous studies of these catalysts have reported conflicting results on the influence of noble metal supports on the OER activity of t...

(2009), Constraints on the utility of MnO 2 cartridge method for the extraction of radionuclides: A case study using 234 Th, Geochem. [1] Large volume (10 2 –10 3 L) seawater samples are routinely processed to investigate the partitioning of particle reactive radionuclides and Ra between solution and size-fractionated suspended particulate matter. One of the most frequently used methods to prec...

Magnetic properties of a series of (La(0.7)Sr(0.3)MnO(3)/SrRuO(3)) superlattices, where the SrRuO(3) layer thickness is varying, are examined. A room-temperature magnetocaloric effect is obtained owing to the finite size effect which reduces the T(C) of La(0.7)Sr(0.3)MnO(3) layers. While the working temperature ranges are enlarged, - ΔS(M)(max) values remain similar to the values in polycrystal...
