Many anticancer drugs in clinical use interact with DNA through intercalation, which is process that starts with the transfer of the intercalating molecule from an aqueous environment to the hydrophobic space between two adjacent DNA base pairs. In general, intercalatig agents are two types: monofunctional and bifunctional. Monofunctional intercalators contain one intercalating unit and Bifunct...

We introduce a scanometric detection method for the analysis of DNA microarrays using DNA intercalator-conjugated gold nanoparticles that can be analyzed with the naked eye or with an optical scanner after the enhancement of the AuNPs. Moreover, we successfully detected a hemagglutinin-subtyping DNA array using this method.

A series of novel, dinuclear (2,2':6',2''-terpyridine)platinum(ii) complexes containing bis(thioalkyl)-dicarba-closo-dodecaborane(12)(carborane) ligands were prepared and characterised, and their preliminary anti-cancer characteristics have been determined in vitro; the complexes are the first examples of bis-intercalator complexes containing a boron-rich carborane cage.

In this study, we present the work on the physicochemical interaction between the anti-cancer alkaloidberberine (BRB) and DNA with the purpose of designing drugs that interact more with DNA. Molecularmodeling on the complex formed between berberine and DNA presented that this complex was undeniablyfully able of participating in the formation of a stable intercalation site. Besides, the molecula...

Double-stranded oligonucleotides with +1 interstrand zipper arrangements of intercalator-functionalized nucleotides are energetically activated for recognition of mixed-sequence double-stranded DNA. Incorporation of nonyl (C9) bulges at specific positions of these probes, results in more highly affine (>5-fold), faster (>4-fold) and more persistent dsDNA recognition relative to conventional Inv...

The combination of (i) the light-harvesting nature and excited-state redox reactivity of a cationic DNA intercalator, (ii) a conjugated Ag(+)-binding crown ether, and (iii) the stabilizing effect of DNA on AgNPs in one integral ternary complex enables the mild photoinduced formation of Ag nanoparticles.

The assembly of double-stranded (ds) DNA nanocircles both by hybridization with branched oligodeoxynucleotides (ODNs) and by intercalation was analyzed by atomic force microscopy (AFM). Branched ODNs ligated to single-stranded (ss) gap regions of dsDNA nanocircles led to defined, dumbbell-shaped architectures. ODNs containing an aromatic intercalator yielded oligomeric aggregates.
