An adaptive mesh refinement procedure for wrinkling prediction analyses is presented. First the critical values are determined using Hutchinson’s bifurcation functional. A wrinkling risk factor is then defined and used to determined areas of potential wrinkling risk. Finally, a mesh refinement is operated.

The stability of the wrinkling mode experienced by a compressed half-space of neo-Hookean material is investigated using analytical and numerical methods to study the post-bifurcation behaviour of periodic solutions. It is shown that wrinkling is highly unstable owing to the nonlinear interaction among the multiple modes associated with the critical compressive state. Concomitantly, wrinkling i...

Wake fields excited in a small gap of a vacuum chamber by ampere beams can have enough amplitude to heat the chamber. The electric component of these fields can be above the arcing limit. Usually flange connections in a vacuum chamber contain a vacuum gasket and an inner RF gasket. If a small gap occurs between the RF gasket and flange surface, wake fields can heat the flanges. The flanges are ...

Determination of the optimum loading path (internal pressure- axial feeding) to restrict the Bursting, buckling and wrinkling through tube hydroforming process is necessary to produce an acceptable tube. In this paper, the wrinkling and fracture criteria are implemented to an finite element code devoted to the simulation of tube hydroforming processes. Using the ANSYS parametric design language...

Sensitivity analysis of investigating the parameters effect on the effective width of stressed-skin panels with single-skin and double-rib is presented. Based on the results, a simple formula for predicting the effective width of stressed-skin panels was derived. With this formula, the effective width (ratio) of flange can be determined by multiplying the primary effective width ratio, which is...

Thin-walled tube bending has common applications in the automobile and aerospace industries. The rotary-draw-bending method is a complex physical process with multi-factor interactive effects and is one of the advanced tube forming processes with high efficiency, high forming precision, low consumption and good flexibility for bending angle changes. However, it may cause a wrinkling phenomenon,...

A tool was developed to aid in ruminal insertion of abomasal infusion lines into dairy cows. The tool consisted of 2 pieces cut from polyvinyl chloride pipe. The first piece of pipe, the insertion tool, contained a groove that held the flexible plastic flange that is on the end of the infusion line. The insertion tool containing the flange was inserted into the ruminal cannula, through the sulc...

Hutchinson approach has been successfully used by a number of researchers in thin sheet metal forming processes for wrinkling prediction. However, Hutchinson approach is limited to regions of the sheet that are free of any contact. Therefore, a new wrinkling indicator that can be used in the contact areas is proposed. Discretisation error indicators are also used to present a comprehensive appr...

Due to the problems of potential corrosion and thermal expansion differences between traditional metal connecting pieces and carbon fiber poles, it is difficult for them to meet the operating requirements of truss structures in the environment of stratosphere. Based on the large scale composite space truss structure of stratosphere aerostats, the carbon fiber flange connection joints were studi...
