Complement is an acute-reacting non-specific effector system. Activation and consumption of individual components of this multicomponent system occur secondarily to specific complement fixing events. The complement system is therefore an indirect and imprecise diagnostic tool and can be used clinically only as a general indicator of the severity of a particular disease or as a monitor of its pr...

The relations among a set, its complement, and its boundary are examined constructively. A crucial tool is a theorem that allows the construction of a point where a segment comes close to the boundary of a set in a Banach space. Brouwerian examples show that many of the results are the best possible.

It is known that the total (co)-homoloy of a 2-step nilpotent Lie algebra g is at least 2|z|, where z is the center of g. We improve this result by showing that a better lower bound is 2t, where t = |z|+ [ |v|+1 2 ] and v is a complement of z in g. Furthermore, we provide evidence that this is the best possible bound of the form 2t.

Complement receptor 1-related protein Y (CrrY) is an important cell-surface regulator of complement that is unique to rodent species. The structure of rat CrrY domains 1-4 has been determined in two distinct crystal forms and reveals a 70° bend between domains 3 and 4. Comparisons of this structure with those of other complement regulators suggests that rearrangement of this interface may occur...

The complement system is a key component regulation influences susceptibility to age-related macular degeneration, meningitis, and kidney disease. Variation includes genomic rearrangements within the complement factor H-related (CFHR) locus. Elucidating the mechanism underlying these associations has been hindered by the lack of understanding of the biological role of CFHR proteins. Here we pre...

this paper analyzes a linear system of equations when the righthandside is a fuzzy vector and the coefficient matrix is a crisp m-matrix. thefuzzy linear system (fls) is converted to the equivalent crisp system withcoefficient matrix of dimension 2n × 2n. however, solving this crisp system isdifficult for large n because of dimensionality problems . it is shown that thisdifficulty may be avoide...

Despite significant research on the role of inflammation and immunosurveillance in the immunologic microenvironment of tumors, little attention has been given to the oncogenic capabilities of the complement cascade. The recent finding that complement may contribute to tumor growth suggests an insidious relationship between complement and cancer, especially in light of evidence that complement f...

Background and Objectives: Deficiency in the complement system can lead to some autoimmune diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus. The purpose of this study was to investigate the levels of C3 and C4 complements in unstimulated saliva of individuals with oral lichen planus (OLP) and healthy subjects. Methods: In this case-control study, 31 healthy individuals and 31 patients with OLP en...
