A revlew of the pathogenic impact of Myxosporea in marine fish culture is presented. At least 11 species of Bivalvulida and 7 species of Multi\~alvulida have been described in marine or brackish fish kept in different culture systems. The pathological importance of these myxosporoses is discussed, and their potential importance with the growth of culture facilities is stressed.
Rapid identification of microorganisms in blood cultures is required to optimize empirical treatment at an early stage. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) can reduce the time to identification of microorganisms in growth-positive blood cultures. In this study, we evaluated the performance, time to identification, and potential clinical benefits of FISH compared to those of conventional c...
BACKGROUND/AIMS Clarithromycin resistance is an important factor of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication failure in adults and children. There are some tests to determine resistance such as restriction fragment length polimorphism (RFLP), fluorescence in situ hibridisation (FISH), PCR and (culture) agar dilution. Clarithromycin resistance is reported between 16.8%-48.2% in Turkey using P...
The purpose of present review is to enlighten the present and future prospective on importance of medicinal plants on fish diseases. Now a day, the parasitic outbreak acts as an important limiting factor for fish culture. The infection of Trichodina parasites and Aeromonas hydrophila bacterium has lead to great economic loss for fish culture business. These fast antibiotics from plants are freq...
Little is known about the growth performance of sex-reversed, all male Oreochromis niloticus under different traditional and non-traditional culture methods practiced in India. In this study, 17"methyltestosterone treated monosex tilapia was cultured in concrete tank, flow-through system, cage, pen and earthen pond. Similar feeding regime and stocking density of fish were maintained for all the...
Stocking density is considered one of the important factors affecting fish growth. But, information related to impact of stocking density on growth performance of monosex tilapia population under the ecological conditions of Gangetic plains in West Bengal, India is limited. The aim of our study was to compare the growth potential of monosex tilapia at various stocking densities and to determine...
Biofloc technology (BFT) is a relatively new biotechnological means to support high density culture, maintain water quality, biosecurity, reduce the need for water exchange, reutilize the feed and reduce the production cost. This technology is mainly based on the principle of waste nutrients recycling (particularly nitrogen) into microbial biomass that can be used in situ by the cultured animal...
Fish aquaculture for commodity production, fisheries enhancement and conservation is expanding rapidly, with many cultured species undergoing inadvertent or controlled domestication. Cultured fish are frequently released, accidentally and deliberately, into natural environments where they may survive well and impact on wild fish populations through ecological, genetic, and technical interaction...
The Instituto de Investigaciones de la Amazonia Peruana (IIAP) is the leading governmental organization working in aquaculture and fisheries research in the Peruvian Amazon region. In addition, IIAP produces fingerlings, offers training courses, and works with nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) endeavoring to promote fish culture. This report summarizes fieldwork and survey results from rural...
