Skin permeability is widely considered to be mechanistically implicated in chemically-induced skin sensitization. Although many chemicals have been identified as skin sensitizers, there have been very few reports analyzing the relationships between molecular structure and skin permeability of sensitizers and non-sensitizers. The goals of this study were to: (i) compile, curate, and integrate th...

The investigation of individual differences in coping styles in response to fear conditioning is an important issue for a better understanding of the etiology and treatment of psychiatric disorders. It has been assumed that an avoidant (repressive) coping style is characterized by increased emotion regulation efforts in context of fear stimuli as compared to a more vigilant coping style. Howeve...

The local lymph node assay using 5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine (BrdU) with flow cytometry (LLNA: BrdU-FCM) is a modified LLNA that is used to identify skin sensitizers by counting BrdU-incorporated lymph node cells (LNCs) with flow cytometry. Unlike other LLNA methods (OECD TG 429, 442A and 442B) in which the CBA/J mouse strain is used, LLNA: BrdU-FCM was originally designed to be compatible with BALB...

This paper describes thin films comprising acenes dispersed in a conjugated polymeric host that have a ratiometric photoluminescence response to singlet oxygen. These films also respond to irradiation of protein-bound sensitizers, which represents a solution to the problem of protein-conjugated polymer non-specific interactions.

A pair of isomeric ruthenium sensitizers BM1 and BM2, having TIP based ancillary ligands with a 9-phenylcarbazole tail at the α or β position of the thiophene unit, shows a distinguishable photovoltaic performance on DSCs (PCEs: 7.33% and 5.33% for BM1 and BM2 as compared with 6.07% for the standard N3-dye).

Modifying the entry of pyruvate into mitochondria may provide a unique approach to treat metabolic disease. The pharmacology of a new class of insulin sensitizers directed against a newly identified mitochondrial target may treat many aspects of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, including fibrosis. This commentary suggests treating nonalcoholic steatohepatitis through a newly identified mechanism c...

Oxasmaragdyrin boron complexes were prepared and applied in DSSCs. The HOMO-LUMO energy gap analyses and theoretical calculations revealed that these expanded porphyrins are ideal sensitizers for DSSCs. A device containing oxasmaragdyrin-BF2 as the sensitizer achieves an energy conversion efficiency of 5.7%.

A new series of neutral, thiocyanate-free Ru(II) sensitizers (TFRS-1-3), which are assembled using both 4,4'-carboxy-2,2'-bypyridine and 2-pyridyl pyrazolate ancillaries, exhibit a light-harvesting capability up to 700 nm and superior DSSC performance in conversion efficiency (eta = 9.54% for TFRS-2).

background non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (nafld) is considered as the hepatic manifestation of insulin resistance (ir) syndrome. the effect of insulin sensitizers on liver function tests and metabolic indices in nafld patients is a matter of debate. objectives the aim of study was to compare the effects of two different insulin sensitizers, pioglitazone, and metformin, on liver function tes...

A molecular engineering strategy based on rational variations of the bromine substitution pattern in two-photon absorbing singlet oxygen sensitizers allows studying the relations that exist between the positioning of an inter-system crossing promoter on the charge-transfer chromophore and its ability to generate singlet oxygen.
