WE PROPOSE A NOVEL AUTOMATED ALGORITHM FOR CLASSIFYING DIAGNOSTIC CATEGORIES OF OTITIS MEDIA: acute otitis media, otitis media with effusion, and no effusion. Acute otitis media represents a bacterial superinfection of the middle ear fluid, while otitis media with effusion represents a sterile effusion that tends to subside spontaneously. Diagnosing children with acute otitis media is difficult...

We present a case of bilateral otitis externa that did not respond to local treatment. Cutaneous biopsies revealed bilateral amyloid depositions secondary to multiple myeloma. Persistent, identical bilateral canal lesions may be the only manifestation of treatable systemic disease and should be biopsied, even though their bilaterality argues against malignancy.

Humans show remarkable skills in reactive balancing control on unknown disturbances while standing and walking.Though current bipedal robots can walk, run and step obstacles, they normally perform in a well-controlled environment. Still unexpected perturbations can cause a fall of bipedal robots, therefore advanced capabilities for rejecting unknown disturbances are needed. Studies from neurolo...

Introduction: Foreign bodies in the external auditory canal are fairly common, and tend to be seeds, toys, or insects. However, foreign bodies in the middle ear are rarer, and are generally accidental or iatrogenic. Although there are numerous reports regarding fascinating foreign bodies in the ear, the same cannot be said about foreign bodies in the Eustachian tube (ET).   Case Report: A 20-ye...

Subacute otitis media is a well-known pathology of ENT practice which is easily diagnosed and subsequently treated in the outpatient clinic. The rate of complications in acute otitis media is lower than in chronic otitis media. We present here the history of a young patient with subacute otitis media who developed both localized labyrinthitis and facial palsy requiring surgical treatment. We co...
