Three different carbon-based counter electrodes are investigated in light of catalytic activities such as electrochemical frequencies and interface impedances. We fabricated carbon-based counter electrodes of dye-sensitized solar cells [DSSCs] using graphene, single-walled carbon nanotubes [SWNTs], and graphene-SWNT composites by electrophoretic deposition method. We observed the optical and el...

Described herein is the development of a novel Co-based oxygen electrode catalyst coupled with unique carbon structures. The present carbon shell coated Co nanoparticles of which the surface composites are modified by phosphorus incorporation, exhibit efficient oxygen reduction activities as well as oxygen evolving properties.

Molecular dynamics (MD) and molecular mechanics (MM) methods have been used to investigate additive-polymer interfacial properties in single walled carbon nanotube (SWNT)-polyethylene and SWNT-polyacrylonitrile composites. Properties such as the interfacial shear stress and bonding energy are similar for the two composites. In contrast, functionalizing the SWNT with carboxylic acid groups leads...

Molecular dynamics modeling shows that multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with sp;{3} interwall bonding have strengths exceeding those of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) containing the same size initial intrawall defect, and are far less sensitive to defect size. Thus, although processing methods used to increase interwall coupling also create intrawall defects, analyses here show that t...

This paper reports the sensor integration method into carbon composites for the development of Structural Health Monitoring (SHM). Early detection and long term monitoring of the specific properties of composites will improve the security and prolong the time of service 1 . The core function of SHM is the damage detection and identification at elevated temperatures, over loads and corrosion. Va...

In the ongoing search for new materials for microwave absorption applications, Carbon Nanotubes deserve a special consideration due to their outstanding properties. In this paper, microwave absorbing properties of epoxy resin based composites containing commercial Multi Walled Carbon Nanotubes used as fillers have been analyzed. The complex permittivity of the composites was measured in a wide ...

Electrically conductive polymer composites filled with carbon black can exhibit the mechanical behavior of a polymer and metallic electrical conductivity. Unfortunately, excessive amounts of carbon black can produce brittle films and too little carbon black can result in low conductivity. Composite conductivity can be dramatically improved by using latex as the matrix starting material. Latex p...

 Increased usage of carbon fibre composite poses challenges for the automotive industry; one is to manage carbon fibre composites within the product development process. This paper combines knowledge in design engineering, material science and production technology, aiming to bridge these domains. The study indicates that mass production methods suitable for carbon fibre have several factors i...

Hierarchically porous carbon monoliths with high specific surface areas have been fabricated by removing nano-sized silica phase from carbon/silica composites pyrolyzed from bridged polysilsesquioxane. This activation method improves the homogeneity between inner and outer parts of the monoliths compared to the conventional thermal activation methods.

Electrochemical activation of carbon nanotube/polysulfone composite electrodes for enhanced heterogeneous electron transfer is studied. The physicochemical insight into the electrochemical activation of carbon nanotube/polymer composites was provided by transmission electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry. Dopamine, ascorbic acid, ...
