We report on the exchange of orbital angular momentum between an electromagnetic wave and a 30 cm diameter ring. Using a turnstile antenna in the GHz range, we induce a torque on a suspended copper strip of the order of 10(-8)  N m. Rotations of a few degrees and accelerations up to 4×10(-4) °/s2 are observed. A linear dependence of the acceleration as a function of the applied power is found. ...

In this paper, we consider a formation keeping problem for a satellite formation flying system. The relative motion dynamics is designed with polytopic uncertainties by considering elliptical reference orbit, noncoplarnar formation and unknown angular rate, angular acceleration within some boundary. We propose a composite nonlinear feedback control law obtained by the solution to an algebraic R...

The aim of this study was to investigate if trunk muscle activation patterns during rapid bilateral shoulder flexions are affected by movement amplitude. Eleven healthy males performed shoulder flexion movements starting from a position with arms along sides (0°) to either 45°, 90° or 180°. EMG was measured bilaterally from transversus abdominis (TrA), obliquus internus (OI) with intra-muscular...

The inertial effects on neutrino oscillations induced by the acceleration and angular velocity of a reference frame are calculated. Such effects have been analyzed in the framework of the solar and atmospheric neutrino problem. Angular and translational accelerations excite the semicircular canals and otolith organs, respectively. While canal afferents approximately encode head angular velocity due to the biomechanical integration performed by the canals, otolith signals have been found to approximate head translational acceleration. Because central vestibular pathways require velocity and position signals for their o...

The dependence of angular distributions of fast electrons generated in the interaction of p-polarized femtosecond laser pulses with foil targets on laser intensities is investigated. A novel fast electron beam along the front target surface is observed for high laser intensity. It is found that the electron acceleration along the target surface is more efficient than those in other directions.

A new method for automatic analysis and characterization of recorded hummingbird wing motion is proposed. The method starts by computing a multiscale dense optical flow field, which is used to segment the wings, i.e., pixels with larger velocities. Then, the kinematic and deformation of the wings were characterized as a temporal set of global and local measures: a global angular acceleration as...

The origin of ultra-high energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) and neutrinos is still a mystery. Hadronic acceleration theory suggests that they should originate in the same sources (astrophysical or cosmological), together with gammarays. While gamma-rays have been linked to astrophysical sources, no point source of UHECRs or neutrinos have been found so far. In this paper, the multimessenger combinatio...

MADYMO pedestrian simulations were performed using a previous model as a baseline [1‐2]. The following were assessed for their influence on the relationship between windscreen angle and head injury risk: vehicle/ pedestrian speed, pedestrian gait, size and arm position, and vehicle braking, approach angle, windscreen stiffness and shape. Head injury risk is assessed through peak linear and angu...
