Homogenates of the mid gut and digestive glands of Rhynchosciara angelae were prepared in 40% sucrose, with and without 0.5% Triton-X-100. These were subjected to disc electrophoresis and zymograms for esterases and alkaline phosphatase were prepared. In both groups the effect of Triton-X-100 was to increase the electrophoretic mobility of the enzymes concerned.

Hypoxia-ischemia (HI) and excitotoxicity are validated causes of neonatal brain injuries and tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA) participates in the processes through proteolytic and receptor-mediated pathways. Brain microvascular endothelial cells from neonates in culture, contain and release more t-PA and gelatinases upon glutamate challenge than adult cells. We have studied t-PA to gelatinas...

Aspartate aminotransferase (l-aspartate:2-oxoglutarate aminotransferase, EC 2.6.1.1 [AAT]), a key enzyme in the assimilation of C and N compounds, was purified from the cytosol of alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) root nodules. Isoforms that increased during nodule development, AAT-2a, AAT-2b, and AAT-2c, were purified greater than 447-fold to apparent homogeneity, and high titer polyclonal antibodi...

The genus Fusarium is a species rich genus. Different media are required to study the morphological characters and classify different species, a time consuming technique. In this study pectic zymograms were used to identify species and form species of Fusarium isolates. Fusarium isolates (318) were obtained from different areas and hosts in Isfahan Province, Iran. Isolates were identified to sp...

A procedure for high resolution electrophoresis of isozymes of the mosquito Aedes aegypti using nonlinear (2.5%-20%) polyacrylamide gradient gel slabs is described. Crude mosquito homogenates were electrophoresed on gradient and on homogeneous (7%) polyacrylamide gels and stained for esterase (EST), isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) and malate dehydrogenase (MDH). The resulting zymograms were comp...

We describe a new enzymatic functionality for the surface layer (S-layer) of Lactobacillus acidophilus ATCC 4356, namely, an endopeptidase activity against the cell wall of Salmonella enterica serovar Newport, assayed via zymograms and identified by Western blotting. Based on amino acid sequence comparisons, the hydrolase activity was predicted to be located at the C terminus. Subsequent clonin...

Descriptions of the World Health Organization standard methods of assessing susceptibility or resistance in larval and in adult mosquitoes are presented, and the evaluation of their results are discussed. Other susceptibility test methods are also mentioned, including those based on esterase zymograms. Recent work on the biochemical mechanisms of resistance and cross-resistance are reviewed, al...
