To achieve this goal, definite epidemiologic data is absolutely required, empiric preemptive treatments mainly based on this. The aim study was to evaluate infectious agents isolated from SBFs, susceptibility results molecular analysis (PCR) data, retrospec...

Background — Presence of microorganisms in sterile body sites leads to life-threatening infections. For early and accurate diagnosis of those infections, cultures of the sterile fluids have to be done. These cultures can not always detect the causative agents due to insufficent number or fastidious growing of the probable microorganisms in the material. Objectives — In this study, it was aimed ...

During 10 years penicillin resistance among clinical isolates of S. pneumoniae was more or less stable. The cumulative proportion of penicillin non susceptible S. pneumoniae (PNSP) was 13.0%; 7.2% when isolates with MIC = 2 mg/l were considered. Among PNSP only 2 strains were isolated from sterile body fluids, one having MIC >3.84 mg/l. Lack of susceptibility to cotrimoxazole was 38.4%. All iso...

Studies have demonstrated that large-volume culture methods for sterile body fluids other than blood increase recovery compared to traditional plated-medium methods. BacT/Alert is a fully automated blood culture system for detecting bacteremia and fungemia. In this study, we compared culture in BacT/Alert standard aerobic and anaerobic bottles, BacT/Alert FAN aerobic and FAN anaerobic bottles, ...
