Laser beam welding (LBW) is one of the most important manufacturing processes used for joining of materials. It is also a remarkably complicated, nonlinear operation involving extremely high temperatures. Since its invention more than two decades ago, laser beam welding has been more of an art than a science. Laser welding of austenitic stainless steel AISI 304 the candidate material of this re...
During machining of stainless steels at low cutting -speeds, workpiece material tends to adhere to the cutting tool at the tool-chip interface, forming built-up edge (BUE). BUE has a great importance in machining processes; it can significantly modify the phenomenon in the cutting zone, directly affecting the workpiece surface integrity, cutting tool forces, and chip formation. The American Iro...
Paper presents the research of austenitic steel AISI 304after ion nitriding at 400◦C and at t =4h, for the two different variants of samples distribution in the working plasma reactive chamber tube. In order to assess the effectiveness of ion nitriding variants emission spectroscopy – GDOES, surface hardness tests, microstructure research (LM) of nitrided layers were made. It has been found tha...
There are many industries where austenitic stainless steel needs to be welded specially in power generation industries. Unfortunately the austenitic stainless welding has several fabrication and metallurgical drawbacks when welded by using conventional fusion welding methods, which can often leads to in-service failure. The most pronounced fabrication faults are hot cracks due to inadvertent us...
This paper presents a series of tests on cold-formed stainless steel bolted connections. The test specimens were fabricated from three different types of stainless steel, including austenitic stainless steel EN1.4301 (AISI 304) and EN1.4571 (AISI 316Ti having small amount of titanium) as well as lean duplex stainless steel EN1.4162 (AISI S32101). The material properties of the three types of st...
Thanks to the collaboration between two laboratories, we present different techniques to measure thermal diffusivity. A brief description of any technique both in the experimental layout and in the processing algorithms is given. Results obtained on samples cut from the same block of stainless steel AISI 304, are reported. Uncertainty evaluation of any measurement is reported as well.
Complex two-component peak of anelastic mechanical losses was observed in multicomponent substitutional austenitic alloys after prior plastic deformation. In AISI 316L, AISI 316LN, AISI 310 and AISI 304 austenitic stainless steels, this peak is situated in the wide range of temperature from 200 to 400K. Characteristics of the observed peak for different thermo-mechanical treatments were studied...
Implantation using stainless steels (SS) is an example where an understanding of protein-induced metal release from SS is important when assessing potential toxicological risks. Here, the protein-induced metal release was investigated for austenitic (AISI 304, 310, and 316L), ferritic (AISI 430), and duplex (AISI 2205) grades in a phosphate buffered saline (PBS, pH 7.4) solution containing eith...
An Al-40.0Ge-3.4Si wt.% alloy foil with a thickness of 50 ± 5 μm, obtained via an ultrafast solidification method, is described in this work. A complete wetting the aluminum substrate angle 0° observed, and formation drop 30 5° observed on steel substrate. Similar dissimilar brazed joints AA 6082 stainless-steel AISI 304 are obtained. The microstructure 6082/AA seam homogeneous contains particl...
