The example of phase transformation from a centrosymmetric space group at low temperature (LT) to a chiral space group at high temperature (HT) is reported, which was clearly resolved in a single-crystal-to-single-crystal manner in a 3D uranyl(vi) phosphonate compound [TMA][(UO2)2(1,3-pbpH)(1,3-pbpH2)] () (TMA(+) = tetramethylammonium cation; 1,3-pbpH4 = 1,3-phenylenebis(phosphonic acid)).
A commonly applied strategy in the field of tissue engineering (TE) is the use of temporary three-dimensional scaffolds for supporting and guiding tissue formation in various in vitro strategies and in vivo regeneration approaches. The interactions of these scaffolds with highly sensitive bioentities such as living cells and tissues primarily occur through the material surface. Hence, surface c...
Many studies have tried to look for the application of chitosan in tissue engineering since its structure is similar to glycoaminoglycans, the main components of the extracellular matrix. Previous studies had indicated that the incorporation of sulfonic or phosphonic functionalities would be beneficial to the growth of certain cells. However, no study has explored the effect of incorporation o...
We include in this review an assessment of the formation, environmental fate, and mammalian and ecotoxicity of CW agent degradation products relevant to environmental and occupational health. These parent CW agents include several vesicants: sulfur mustards [undistilled sulfur mustard (H), sulfur mustard (HD), and an HD/agent T mixture (HT)]; nitrogen mustards [ethylbis(2-chloroethyl)amine (HN1...
A new way to analyze supramolecular dendritic architectures is reported by making use of (13)C NMR and (31)P NMR. Two ethylene glycol guest molecules have been synthesized containing a (13)C labeled carboxylic acid headgroup (2) and a phosphonic acid headgroup (3). The binding of these guests to urea-adamantyl modified poly(propylene imine) dendrimers has been investigated with (13)C NMR and (3...
In situ sonic probe exfoliated graphene sheets in the presence of various concentrations of p-phosphonic acid calix[8]arene are effective in removing nitrate from aquatic effluents, with the efficiency increasing for higher ratios of calixarene to graphite. Mild sonication of the nitrate-adsorbed material releases some nitrate ions back to the effluent.
Vertical scanning interferometry and XPS show the reaction of CaCO3 with the hydration retarder nitrilo-tris-(methylene)phosphonic acid follows a pathway of dissolution of the calcium followed by precipitation of a calcium phosphonate; subsequent surface reorganization/restructuring of the calcium phosphonate exposes the underlying CaCO3 for further hydration.
ABSTRACT The phosphonate-substituted zirconium oxo clusters Zr6O2(OBu)12(O3PPh)4 and Zr7O2(OiPr)12(O3PCH2CH2CH2Br)6, with octahedrally coordinated Zr atoms, were synthesized by reaction of zirconium alkoxides with phosphonic acid bis(trimethylsilyl) esters. The basic structural motif are Zr3O(µ2-OR)3(OR)3 units which are connected in different ways. GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT
A facile approach has been developed for non-covalently stabilising pristine C60 and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in water in the presence of p-phosphonic acid calix[8]arene, along with the formation of a 'pea-pod' encapsulation of the fullerene inside the MWCNTs. Aqueous dispersions of the different carbon nano-materials are readily decorated with palladium nanoparticles.
Semiconducting organic-inorganic nanocomposites comprising the conjugated polymer poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) in intimate contact with CdSe nanocrystals were crafted by exploiting rationally designed P3HT-grafted cadmium precursors (i.e., Cd-P3HT complexes). The bifunctional ligand 4-bromobenzyl phosphonic acid (BPA-Br) that possesses two terminal functional groups at each end was employed, e...
