abstract background antibiotic resistance makes antimicrobial peptides (amps) agents an alternative for treatment of pathogenic diseases. they are isolated from various animals invertebrates, vertebrates and plants. the present study shows the electrophoretic pattern of protein and peptides from vicia faba seed and reports our first attempt to study the antibacterial activity of vicia faba seed...
The modulation of fitness by single mutational substitutions during environmental change is the most fundamental consequence of natural selection. The antagonistic tradeoffs of pleiotropic mutations that can be selected under changing environments therefore lie at the foundation of evolutionary biology. However, the molecular basis of fitness tradeoffs is rarely determined in terms of how these...
Particulate carriers such as polymeric micelles (PMs) and liposomes have been investigated to increase drug accumulation in tumors and reduce distribution to healthy tissues. In this study, we prepared PM and hybrid nanoparticles (HNPs) with poly(ethylene oxide)-block-poly(methacrylic acid) (PEO-b-PMAA) for loading cisplatin, and evaluated cisplatin release, cytotoxicity, and biodistribution in...
The notion of mirror nodes, first introduced by Fomin, Grandoni and Kratsch in 2006, turned out to be a useful item for their design of an algorithm for the maximum independent set problem (MIS). Given two nodes u, v of a graph G = (V, E) with distG(u, v) = 2, u is called a mirror of v if N(v) \N(u) induces a (possibly empty) clique. In order to have a well defined term, we add that every compl...
A graph is called t-perfect if its stable set polytope is fully described by non-negativity, edge and odd-cycle constraints. We characterise nearbipartite t-perfect and P5-free t-perfect graphs in terms of forbidden tminors. Moreover, we show that P5-free t-perfect graphs can always be coloured with three colours, and that they can be recognised in polynomial time.
1. The ability of myo-inositol polyphosphates to inhibit iron-catalysed hydroxyl radical formation was studied in a hypoxanthine/xanthine oxidase system [Graf, Empson and Eaton (1987) J. Biol. Chem. 262, 11647-11650]. Fe3+ present in the assay reagents supported some radical formation, and a standard assay, with 5 microM Fe3+ added, was used to investigate the specificity of compounds which cou...
For the first time a dual pathway for dephosphorylation of myo-inositol hexakisphosphate by a histidine acid phytase was established. The phytate-degrading enzyme of Klebsiella terrigena degrades myo-inositol hexakisphosphate by stepwise dephosphorylation, preferably via D-Ins(1,2,4,5,6)P5, D-Ins(1,2,5,6)P4, D-Ins(1,2,6)P3, D-Ins(1,2)P2 and alternatively via D-Ins(1,2,4,5,6)P5, Ins(2,4,5,6)P4, ...

A graph is k-choosable if it admits a proper coloring of its vertices for every assignment of k (possibly different) allowed colors to choose from for each vertex. It is NP-hard to decide whether a given graph is k-choosable for k ≥ 3, and this problem is considered strictly harder than the k-coloring problem. Only few positive results are known on input graphs with a given structure. Here, we ...
OBJECTIVE Many studies have focused on the epigenetic characteristics of donor cells to improve somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). We hypothesized that the epigenetic status and chromatin structure of undifferentiated bovine adipose tissue-derived stem cells (BADSCs) would not remain constant during different passages. The objective of this study was to determine the mRNA expression patterns...
