In this report, the research conducted on entanglement in topological phases is detailed and summarized. This includes background developed and an explanation of the structure of the code written it MATLAB to compute various aspects of entanglement for topological systems. Topological phases are generally those that cannot be described by Landau symmetry-breaking, including the fractional quant...
We investigate the adiabatic evolution of a set of nondegenerate eigenstates of a parametrized Hamiltonian. Their relative phase change can be related to geometric measurable quantities that extend the familiar concept of Berry phase to the evolution of more than one state. We present several physical systems where these concepts can be applied, including an experiment on microwave cavities for...
Trigonal ordering is evident from electron microscopy of quenched powders of composition YBa#Zu, 0, 5. The powders are a mixture of phases, some of which are based upon two trigonal phases with (I = 0.54 and c = 0.66 nm. In the first the yttrium and barium atoms order on the (I 11) planes of the parent perovskite structure rather than the (001) while in the second stacking sequence the yttrium ...
The mechanism of the orientational ordering of C60 in alkali-metal-doped fullerenes M3C60 is studied. Since the M-C60 (M=K,Rb) interactions cause the C60 molecules to assume one of two standard orientations, this model is equivalent to a generalized Ising model on a fcc lattice. The Ising interactions depend on two type of energies: (1) the direct interaction, i.e., the orientationally dependen...
As ubiquitous computing continues to evolve, we are faced with the challenge of catering to the varied needs of an ever-increasing pool of diverse devices. Though the constraints and requirements for different devices may vary, performance and software quality are of paramount importance. Understanding program behavior is vital to both optimization amd program testing. Recently, there has been ...
Abstract. In this paper we consider narrow band, active array imaging of weak localized scatterers when only the intensities are recorded at an array with N transducers. We consider that the medium is homogeneous and, hence, wave propagation is fully coherent. This work is an extension of our previous paper [21] where we showed that using linear combinations of intensityonly measurements, obtai...
We show theoretically that flexoelectricity stabilizes blue phases in chiral liquid crystals. Induced internal polarization reduces the elastic energy cost of splay and bend deformations surrounding singular lines in the director field. The energy of regions of double twist is unchanged. This in turn reduces the free energy of the blue phase with respect to that of the chiral nematic phase, lea...
We review our recent theoretical works on the the quantum spin Hall effect. First we compare edge states in various 2D systems, and see whether they are robust or fragile against perturbations. Through the comparisons we see the robust nature of edge states in 2D quantum spin Hall phases. We see how it is protected by the Z2 topological number, and reveal the nature of the Z2 topological number...
Recent results obtained from B decays on the phases of weak couplings described by the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix are discussed, with particular emphasis on α and γ = π − β − α. EFI 02-96 hep-ph/0207197 Presented at CERN CKM Workshop 13–16 February 2002
—I recognize four phases of ethnobiology: I, II, III, and IV. Ethnobiology I begins well before the formal naming of ethnobiology as a scholarly endeavor at the end of the 19th century. This initial phase has been widely characterized, albeit over simply, as essentially utilitarian. Ethnobiology II was elaborated in the cognitive/linguistic anthropology of the 1960s. Ethnobiology III integrates...
